Haha, that's just what studying is about man, it helps get shit engrained in your head. But I definately feel where you're coming from, I sometimes feel like studying too much gives me brain damage  ... still, I think it's worth it.
Calculus, in particular, is really a trip if you can open your mind to it... just the idea of finding the rate of change of a fixed point, the fundamental theorem of calculus, taylor/mclauren series, Euler's formula (ei*pi+1=0)... it's all really brilliant, and aesthetically pleasing. Though when it comes to testing, sometimes it's just better to learn how to apply the formulas/processes and think about what it means later.

Thats the thing though. When I go off ranting about Lincoln in class i get looked at as if I had a white hood on.
However with math and the sciences, it's all logic. Not what some old jew wrote in a book.

As long as you teach him then all is well.
Bottom line a child needs to learn. Be it in a public school, private school, private tutor, or by a parent.
A child can not develop into an able bodied human without some structure and learning.
