 If you volunteer to look for a lost person...

In some forest and you hurt yourself during the search and recuse. Is the lost person liable to pay for there medical bills?
I ask because some of you might of herd a few weeks back when some hikers( a man and a women) got lost in a Orange county forest. Cops also found meth in the guys car and charged him with it. But a volunteer search and rescuer got hurt while looking for him and is now saying "His reckless drug use cost him 350,000 dollars in medical bills".
Personally I think he has no case as he willfully volunteered himself.
