Duct question
    #662075 - 03/12/13 10:05 PM (11 years, 18 days ago)

I might get this growlab DL60 and it has adjustable duct ports. With it I'm buying a hurricane inline and a phresh filter both 4". Will I need ducting or clamps?

Will the fan fit snuggly with the filter without any clamps?

Will I need ducting from the exhaust to the duct port or can it just be tightened to the exit with the built in adjustment string?

Any help would be great

You will want both clamps and ducting.  Are you getting an aircooled hood?

Thanks, I'll grab some ducting then.

I'm going T5ho for this one. I might upgrade later on if this doesn't produce decent meds but I've already got two 2' foot 4 bulb ho fixtures.

I'm really starting to consider this 36" x 20" x 60" lighthouse tent. I might use one fixture overhead and then another horizontally on the wall. That would leave 12" for CFL's I guess... or just leave it empty for now. I guess the 24 x 24 x 63 would be ideal for these T5 fixtures. Tough choice. Any opinions?

If you recall that the circumference of a circle is 3.14 times the width, you can get the large zip ties and they work well for clamps (go 4x the width when buying them). All zip ties are reusable, just gotta jam a screwdriver under the lock and it will come back out.  Clamps are expensive and sometimes inconvenient, sometimes critical--know your applications.  you can also chain 2 smaller one's together if you don't want to buy the larger one's.

a tent is always a great idea, it adds reflective walls and helps create a barrier against bugs and whatnot. also better to control the environment.

if you think zip ties work just as well, then OP just do zip ties.

clamps can be such a fucking pain to tighten depending on your angle of setting up your stuff

Well yeah, me too. Only once per round though, and not cause it rips or anything.

Just gets loose. Am I right? ...ladies? :O

Clamps expensive :lolsy:

Zip ties do seem like a decent idea.  But having to keep applying duct tape sounds like a pain in the ass.

Yeah, I should be able to set it and forget it.  Why should I use a material that can come loose when I can buy a product for a couple bucks and they can be used again and again.

It starts to come loose after 2 months, that's when it's replaced.

Zip ties can not be used again and again. A few times and the lock thing bends back, I do the screwdriver thing all the time - zip ties hold up the 8 CFLs around my tent.

But tape is free Basically. I mean, who doesn't have/use duct tape?

Zip ties won't give an airtight seal either. Maybe with plastic ducts?

Uhh....I think that they would be air tight man, you would just need to tighten it down.  And there would be no reason to take it off, unless you are redesigning your grow room constantly, and if you're doing that, just use clamps.

I use 8" plastic ducts, so clamps get pricey (and impossible to find in this area) in comparison to the 36" industrial zip ties that have lasted me a few years. they're air tight enough, if not use some sort of batting material. Clamps are essential at some joins, and I use the one's that came with my equipment, but the zip ties handle the rest. Some joins I like having quick-connect with the zip ties, leaving them tight enough to hold but loose enough to slip off easy.

Yeah I forgot most people have 2 rooms. I have to switch the bulb mh to hps.

But you're right, if you already have zip ties around they're Basically free too

I just wanted to throw out there that Gorilla Tape is not like
other duct tapes.  For one thing, it holds wet which other DTs do not
do well.

I used GT to tape a cut 2 liter bottle duct that sent highly humidified
air into a mushroom greenhouse, and years later, when the humidifier
was being thrown away that duct still had to be ripped off by hand.

I liked the huge zip ties that come with the lengths of ducting.

Good luck,

JD
