 a question about a light i have

So while digging through storage today I Came across a old 4ft shop light, it has t8 bulbs in it. Will it work for VEGING plants? I had bought it for my mushroom tent a while ago.

4 ft by what? You're not going to get enough coverage unless it's a 4 or 5 bulb setup at least. T5's are ideal for fluorescents, but you'll never reach the plant's potential for growth.
I ONLY use fluorescents for seedlings, and I haven't even done that for a while.

Oo, its only a 2 bulb 4ft light. In the 65k spectrum. The applacation I was going to use it for was to start seeds for a garden and possably to get clones going. Was just wondering if a t8 bulb would work for any aplacations in cultivation. Might as well use what I have around if I got it right.

It will work just fine. I keep my mothers under the exact same thing, except I use plant specific bulbs in it. Which are inexpensive at Fred Meyers and the like.

What kind of bulbs shoulsd I look into hawk? Tax season is here and I wil have some cash to play with.

If all you are using that for is seedlings and clones then I would just go down to Fred Meyers and get the plant and aquarium bulb they have for that type of fixture. I clone under it and keep my mothers under it as well. No need to spend a ton of money on lighting for cloning and the like.

Word, I actually got the fixture from wallyworld. But I thought a mother needed A light in the 65k spectrum? Thatink is showing a 34k light tho.

Hawk, I get that you can use the fluorescents for cloning and mothers, but are you also recommending that he use a 6"x48" fixture to veg his plants? I don't see it going so well.

No, I recommended it for mothers and cloning.

Great thread.
I have a bank of four T-8 with some seedlings turning into mothers.
They look this OP:
Your T-5 should do better...esp. if you use hang-ups that allow you
to control the height of your lights. (I intend to add these)
....but the structure is not too bad:
(if I could lose a few inches of that long bottom of the stem ;0)
I will be veg'ing these plants under just the T-8s, but only to take
clones from them. This might not be optimal, but I am in a one-tent
situation.
