Lemon to lower PH?
    #657446 - 02/02/13 08:30 PM (11 years, 1 month ago)

Did this in an extraction where I needed to lower PH and made me wonder if there's any serious drawbacks to using lemon or vinegar to raise and lower PH of your water supply for cannabis plants.

It can be used.  But I much prefer just a standard pH up and down solution.

Wonder if there's a nutritional benefit from the fruit itself. If it can work right I think I'll try it on a plant and see how she likes it just for funsies.

Its been done.  I mean there's some sugar in it.  But not enough to make any difference.  I feel like it doesn't hold the pH in place like a good solution should

PH down is good stuff. I have only used GH but it is very easy to use; it seriously takes me maybe .3 ml per gallon to be where I want. I can't imagine lemon juice could be more effective, even cost wise. I only wish PH up was that good.

Yeah I have my general hydro set and its effective which is great just thinking about what if's. maybe the extra sugar is good during flowering. I live by lemon groves so fresh lemons shouldn't be hard to stock up on and juice for a rotation this spring.

I highly doubt it'd be worth the time, dude.
Just being honest.

I agree and it might be abandoned halfway through unless I enjoy the involvement to compensate which is very possible.

And what was your benefit versus PH up and down?

It does work, I have done it with lemon concentrate.

lemon juice has ph of 2.2, and it usually takes a bit for it to fully drop it but if you have actual solution, which is really cheap.. why not use it

And too much baking soda can cause issues in the long run.

Cool thanks for the info that's good to know guys. Been reading up on teas and shit. Just getting curious about trying new things out. Plus there's nothing I love more than smoking a joint in my garden.  All over this tediousness.

What kind of issues should I be looking into? Is that bicarbonate or base in general I should be careful with?

It's SODIUM bicarbonate. You're adding salts and raising your PPMs.

Edit: Calcium carbonate would be better.

But then you're still adding in a bunch of calcium and overdosing on calcium.  That's why you whoudl just the standard pH up and downs.....

Ill check into various additives since I really only know about lemon to accurately lower PH on a single extraction. Maybe a dedicated organic bed outside this spring with a schedule planned out.
