Its tough being a music "hipster"
    #643280 - 11/03/12 09:56 AM (11 years, 5 months ago)

I use the term hipster lightly, but I'm assuming its what most people would call it. I dislike the label, but maybe thats what I am so I'll roll with it.

All of my top most favorite bands are bands that have recorded albums out of their own garages and print their own t-shirts. Half the time I can't even find a website for the band, a quarter of the time when I find it most of the links are broken, 15% of the time their webstore is either shut down or broken and then the rest of the time I get extremely lucky and find a shirt or poster that I can actually buy.

Its tough listening to your favorite jams and then knowing you'll never get to see your favorite band live unless you fly in an airplane to some backass woods in the middle of fucking nowhere at someones brothers loft on a Wednesday night.

But the music is so good, and I enjoy it so much that I can put all these things aside and just groove out to my youtube play list, and hope to jeebus nothing goes wrong with the uploaders account.

I also hate getting asked "what kinda music you listen to"? Because generally its some FUCKobscureFUCK band that nobody has ever heard of. Excuse me for that shitty hipster mentality, but fuck, I love these tiny half assed bands.

Its tough. Anyone else in a similar boat?

Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

I just realized I'm wearing this shirt ironically.

But fuck, I never bought into the whole hipster thing. They just stole my style, I swear :c

There is a critical difference between you and a hipster. You care about the content of the music, the hipster cares only about the fashionability of the music. A hipster only has interest in some obscure band no one knows about in the possibility of having "discovering" them and getting kudos for it. Once said band is popular, all interest is lost.

I think it's bad taste to define hipster as well as judge someone based said definition. I also hate it when people refer to a certain band or genre as being hipster as if it really means anything.

I only hate it when others try to put a label on what I take in without considering how art is supposed to be interpreted but the subject and not the crowd.
