Tobacco Mosaic Virus

i received a cutting from a friend several months ago. After a few weeks in veg i noticed the funny coloring on one side of a leaf. it spread a little throughout the plant, but never seemed to slow growth down. the plant has since been flowered/harvested with no problems and actually produced a good yield and strong stone. (moby dick)
now up until yesterday i didn't know what the tobacco mosaic virus was. i happened to be surfin through the infirmary at icmag and came across some photos. i instantly noticed the coloring and odd shape of the leaf and realized this is what i was dealing with.
in my veg room the virus is showing itself of on three of my plants. i removed them from the veg room for now. gonna chop them this morning. I'm hoping the virus has not infected my entire room.
soooo any one ever delt with this? i could use some advice.

In all honesty I haven't man. This isn't very common in the U.S. So I'm a little surprised you even got it.

Here's some good info on it for you. http://forum.grasscity.com/cannabis-breeding/622794-tobacco-mosaic-virus-tmv.html
It has infected everything. You need to kill off all you're plants and sterilize everything. There's instructions for that in that thread.

you can get home testing kits that detect for plant virus, never used them, so can't recommend a brand. But I know many orchid growers will swab new plants (mainly cloned stock)and if detected, send out samples for lab testing.
And depending on how clean you keep your growing area, and if you practice basic safety techniques, it isn't a given that there was major cross contamination, or contamination, at all

with that said, if people know of any pictures depicting confirmed cases of tmv they should link to/post them here

I remember looking in the past and could only find "suspected" cases (ones that weren't actually confirmed through testing). But I'll look again

just to clarify, I'm not saying infections don't exist, or even that these suspected cases are wrong, but there is a clear value in having pictures that document a confirmed case. This is especially true of viruses, being that there are numerous ones out there, and their effects can often be confused with a number of other things; given the various ways that they express themselves, and that this expression is often dependent on the unique biology of the plant

not sure how sterile you keep your grow area, quarantine new plants, or if you actively disinfect your various tools. But under my current conditions, I would test anything that isn't showing active signs of a possible infection, before destroying anything.

I am aware of that. But general practice (better said as *should be*) is to wash hands before and after handling plants
