Question about lighting and plant development
    #625063 - 05/29/12 02:11 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

Is it true that baby stretches so fast the very day one introduces 12/12 & HPS? Seems so to me...

Read in a discussion here that UV-B is beneficial to trichome production... why not put the MH in during the final week?

Some people do, but its best to run it the entire time along side your HPS.

Yes they can stretch up to 3 times their starting length after you throw them into 12/12.

Yeah I know. Like skunk can stretch 200% or so during flowering but not in the first week  :tinfoil:

I started with 12/12 the day before yesterday and today as I came from work I saw all the little side branches getting extremely long...

Like the main stem has one or two inches between internodes but the branches go with three or four inches in between... Is that alright? I'm afraid they could get too long for the little place that they're in.
I hope they are just grow so fast until they can peek over the upper fan leaves to get more light. What ya sayin guys?

Bend the fan leafs under the branches so they get light?

:hahahafuck:
Yeah well in theory it it much more simple ^^

Edit: I wonder if I could put the MH back in instead of the HPS, because as long as she's not even flowering I don't want her to grow THAT much. I'm really confined spacewise.

I read somewhere that HPS light is good for budding, MH better for crystal production. Also I read that blue wavelengths are good for chlorophyll production, orange and red light are more for the application of chlorophyll, photosynthesis. This means to me that in each case the HPS will lead to a faster growth because much more of my 150W will be used directly for photosynthesis, ergo the construction of carbohydrates.

So is it alright to put the MH back in as long as she's still not flowering? Experience anyone?

If you in 12/12 light cycle now, then the flowering process has begun.
You can use the MH the first three to four weeks to keep your plants some what shorter, if that's what you're asking.

Remember that changing the light to MH is gonna save you a inch to two inches at most. The light isn't what is making the plant stretch. When the light is cut back to 12/12 the plant begins preflowering. This is a time for stretching especially the male plants. They need to be taller then the females so the pollen can drop down on the females.

The other major factor in the stretch of the plants during this time is genetics. The more sativa in the strain the more it's gonna stretch.
