i read that you need like a square meter of poppies to make 1g of opium

Seems feasible. I know it takes around 10 hectares to produce one kilo of raw opium.

or you just are unlucky and someone ID's and notifies the police about them. It's rare, and you probably wouldn't get into too much trouble for a small grow, but it can happen. More then likely if you just plant some in your backyard garden no one will be the wiser.

if you're expecting a nice quantity of opium, no. It would be more efficient to make tea with a smaller amount of pods.
