Pot size
    #608905 - 02/09/12 11:47 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I just finished a three month grow under a 150w in a 3 gallon bucket. When I was done the roots didnt look root bound, but the plant did drink quick. Now I'm doing a 3 month grow in a 3 gallon bucket under a 400w light. Does this seem fine or would repotting into a bigger pot increase my yield?

Bigger root system should always increase your yield.  As long as you keep everything else optimal.

 I always use 5 gallon, but that's outside. I do not have the experience from indoor growing to answer your question any further but hope you got the help you needed. More space you give the roots the better off you will be. Cheers.

Does anyone happen to have a suggestion on a size? From the top of my pot my plant cannot get any bigger then 2.5 feet on this grow. Or does that sound like I should stick with the 3 gallon? Thanks for the advice so far

Im flowering in one more week. Just to make sure I know correctly, it is bad to repot once flowering begins due to stress correct? And is it possible to get a 5 gallon pot thats not taller...but wider? Thanks again

I always give my plants at least one or two weeks to grow into their pots before I switch to flowering. You don't want it dealing with transplant stress and the stress of the lighting switch all at once.

And as for a wider pot, I think that depends on where you look. I'm sure they're somewhere.

Thanks, ima grab some more soil and repot today. Is there any thing I need to know or tips on pot size and root systems? Like does the shape your soil is in make any difference whatsoever or as long as you got the soil your good? What I mean is like does short and wide make any difference compared to tall and skinny?

Well of course there is a difference.  Wider and shorter pots will lose more water to evaporation than tall and narrow pots, but conversely will have greater atmospheric gas exchange which can be beneficial for root zone oxygen content.

I think the bottom line is just use what you want/have on hand.  Shape of your pot is one of the things you should only worry about once everything else in your garden is perfect. And even then I really don't think it'll be that big of a deal.

When I inevitably break/lose all my pots, I'll be switching to square. Just because it'll allow for a neater grow space.

Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

That's the best reason. Or perhaps the only good reason to consider the shape of your pots.
