 Lighting question

Hey. So last year i bought one of these small 125w cfl grow light, and i was able to grow a couple of pretty big plants but the light was not strong enough to flower. i mean it flowered but it was crap. So i bought a small hps light. So now my question.
Should i run them together or should i run the CFL and then switch when i change the lighting cycle?

Run then together if you can! The more light the better

So I've got 4 NYPD's (Power Diesel) in rock wool right now under the cfl. They just cracked yesterday. i gave them some water but just enough to moisten the rock wool. My plan is to keep the best two females. How old do the plants need to be before i turn on the HPS. I dont want to burn them.

Just don't put it too close and they won't burn, also keep air circulating
