I'm pretty livid, I've been dreading this day since I heard it was possible like 2 years ago. So now as of 1/1/12 bongs have become illegal to sell or display. Its not too bad for me, I have 3 and I plan on adding to that collection via ordering online, though I think I'll make a test order under $100 to see if it gets through before I spend some serious money.
But for people like my friend who called me today and just smashed his bong, this is the worst, I'm lending him one of mine until he makes an order, but I still can't believe how much of a step back my country has taken in relation to the US who is like our buttbuddy.

cant they still be sold under the name "water pipe" .
I know if you use the word "bong" in some headshops they can refuse the sale

hmmm...didn't seem to really address what a 'bong' is exactly. Sooo many water pipes today blur the line between bong and w/e else they are called. I take it you can still buy a regular glass pipe?

Yeah, I was going to make a comment about befriending a glass blower or something. Just make sure they use borosilicate or pyrex glass. I'm sure they'd know to do that though if you asked them to make you a bong.

yea this already happened in South Australia and Queensland and now bowls are worth their weight in gold because you can't get them anywhere. I'm sure I'll still be able to order glass in, even if I have to make it go through another state first.
But yea I can only imagine this will lead to an influx of gatorade bottles and peoples garden hoses being found all over the place, and a huge amount of tinfoil conepieces

Yeah the cops (undercover) kept asking him to mail the wanted bong to a state in which it is illegal, they kept saying no, but their order was taking a lot of place in their factory thang for months, they kept trying to make the customer go to their state. seems kinda silly because people who start smoking weed dont buy bongs usually make something or smoke joints. and the people who invest in bongs usually smoke a good amount of weed and are not gunna stop because cant buy a bong. so what i mean is its not going to prevent people from starting or get anyone to stop smoking.

If I were in Aus I would consider moving to one of the places where it is legal to produce and sell bongs and start an online business. They might not be able to prosecute you for selling them if you are technically selling them in a different place. By the time they arrived where they are illegal to sell then they would already have been paid for. You could market it as being a local type business, and it would be cheaper than ordering from overseas. You would have all the market that the closed head shops had.

Make friends with a glass blower and see if you can sort something out. I'm sure you could make some nice pocket money from it. He'll be your wholesaler and you'll be the middle man.

Sure, do you guys want to point me to a website like glassblowerfriends.com or something of the sort?
I'm egging some of my wealthier stoner friends to get into it, ones with big ego's that think they will be the master of the underground bong guild. I'm making another order with some other friends in the next week or two, I'm going to order an ashcatcher, some glass screens, keck clips and some plugs for cleaning, if this gets through I'll probably get another bong

I met some glass blowers through people I know. A shop approached one guy to make bongs but he was hiring his workshop space from an educational facility and he did not want to risk upsetting anyone, even if he wasn't doing anything illegal.
I used to go down and watch them make stuff. It was pretty cool and we'd crack jokes and watch all of the hot girls who walked past. Girls seem to love glass blowers too because they're artistic.
Anyway, I think if you've got good social skills then you can eventually get what you want but it might not happen straight away. Maybe find a place and go down and see if any cool guys work there that you can click with. Maybe there's a forum for glass blowers in your state?

I love the fact that people are already thinking about creating a black market for bongs.
I fucking hate the fact that it will encourage people to use synthetic plastic/rubber blend garden hoses that produce carcinogenic smoke when burnt.
What is Australia coming to? Australia really seems to pride itself on being the fucking nanny state of the western world.
I don't even smoke bongs and I'm pissed off.
