 Lights and Autoflowers?

Hi, I have two questions I was hoping I could get some input on. I have never done an autoflower before before but I have one under a 150w hps right now along with a regular female, looks female so far at least. Now assuming that is a female I was hoping to begin flowering around 4-5 weeks. Both plants I have now are the same age, so if I begin flowering at 4-5 weeks that means my autoflower will already have been flowering. I should mention my lights are 18-6 now. Anyways point is, is it going to stress my autoflower to change the lights to 12-12 while it is already flowering?
My next question is does anyone suggest starting an autoflower in lights that are 12-12? I know it can be done, but will it grow at a much slower growth that its not worth it?

Lowering the amount of light wouldn't cause the auto to be stressed. Increasing to 24/0 might stress it. Might. But lowering won't bother it. I've done exactly that a few times and it wasn't ever a problem for it. (except mine was 24/0 to 12/12).
As for starting an auto under 12/12, I did it, and they stayed pretty small. I highly suggest taking full advantage of its very limited veg time and running 18/6 or 24/0 until it starts flowering (and right up through flowering if you want even).

Actually, now that I think about it, I started my plants at 12/12 for about 3 weeks indoors this summer, and then moved them outdoors which probably stepped the light up to 16 hours of light per day.
So, even when I increased the light it didn't really stress or bother them.
Just a thought. Meaning, if you had one in flower, and didn't want to run the flower room anymore and wanted to veg something new, it would even be possible to switch it back I'd bet. Not what you're asking, but just worth mentioning.

Thank you thats really helpful. A little off topic but do you think a 150w hps could handle two autoflowers and a regular female that got switched to 12-12 at week 4? This is my 4th grow but first one with the proper equipment.

It really depends on a lot of things.
Personally, I've done 3 plants under a 150 and did just fine. You'll have to LST them and tie them all around, but they like it 
Worst comes to worst, you'll have not-so-dense buds and the lower branches might not be getting optimal light (which are usually popcorn buds anyway). As long as you grow it right it'll still be fire weed.
So, I'd say yes, absolutely.

Auto flowering plants work best in a 18 on and 6 off light cycle for the entire duration. less hours of light just means the plant won't be as large when it matures.

He said "starting" so I assume hes starting a new seed and wants to put it in right away (now) with his other plants (he said one isn't an auto, so that needs the 12/12)
If not, then yeah don't 12/12 it.
