Hi This is my first post on the forum, so hopefully it is in the right location. Two plants (Super Lemon Haze) have been flowering under 400W HPS for 6.5 weeks. One is LST, one is left au naturel. The top bud on the LST is around 20 inches from the bottom bud and they are all developing fairly uniformly. The top bud on the natural plant is around 30 inches from the bottom bud and it appears as though the buds that are over 20 inches from the top bud are not as mature (Macroscopically). So, for the natural one, should the top 20 inches of the plant be harvested first (checking trimchomes) and then raise the remaning portion of the plant, or still harvest it all at the same time? All of the trichomes are still clear, so maybe by some miracle all the trichomes (regardless of location on plant) will mature uniformly, but it's not looking that way. All of this being said, when I checked the flowering time for Super Lemon Haze, it says around 10 weeks. When I look at the LST one, this makes sense, as it looks like it needs a while yet. The natural one however (at least the top 20 inches) looks like it will be ready much sooner. Could be genetic variation or just how they have been treated differently. Anyway, the main question I have is should the top portion of the plant be harvested before the bottom, or is this a bad idea? Thanks
completely normal man. and its really up to you how you would like to harvest the them. you can chop em all down or selectively pick until all the buds are where you want them. both methods work fine. its just up to how patient you are with them in the end really.
One word of advice for selectively harvesting is that you will shock the plants a great deal by taking down the main colas first, so it will take a little longer for your popcorns to finish up.
Ok, thanks guys. So, if one did have the time and patience, should the top half of the plant be chopped off or should each bud be removed from the main stem, leaving it intact (as best as possible, considering)? Thanks.
I just chop down the cola and whatever else is finished and let the rest go if I want to keep the rest for smoke. If I plan on making hash, butter, or anything but smoking then I just take it all down at the same time. Unless there is a HUGE difference in ripeness I usually just harvest all at the same time.
Doing the way you described in your first post is just fine but it could cause the plant some shock and slow it down a bit like someone else had said. But yeah, you're good for sure dude
