coco is like 25 a bag at the hydro store seems ridiculous, wondering if its acceptable to make my own substrate from compressed coco bricks, vermiculite and perlite?

also wondering how long one can store this mixture without it getting moldy or going bad for example making a shitload at first and using it for seedlings then saving the rest until transplant time?

Dry coir will not mold or go bad. Wet coir can, and will especially with nutrient. Yes blocks work fine. I was really hopeing to here you were composting your own coconut husks, maybe somebody will try this one day.

They are the same, maybe a touch more fiber then coir. Also I have heard the salt content maybe higher but I havent noticed that with mushies, and they are more sensitive to salts then plants.
