Help With Layout
    #532513 - 03/02/11 08:52 PM (13 years, 29 days ago)

What would you do if you had a large area, semi-sheltered? Such as an old barn. With electricity. That already has fluorescents hanging.

Slightly worried about not having a separate room to flower.

Also worried about airflow, and similarly, smell.

Definite budget issues.

Also interested in growing fresh vegetables, berries, and anything else that I can.

Simple is key here. Start in slow.

Well, if you don't intend to do a perpetual type grow, you can just do everything in the same space but change your timers when you're ready to flower.

Otherwise, consider making a little partition with black plastic or something... Alot of guys would make that their Veg space because they'll want more room in the flowering area.  It really comes down to making a plan for the plants and attending to the details in the construction.

One thing to consider in your space being an old barn will be light leaks... if you don't think you can make the whole place light-tight, it may be easier to make a space within it anyway.  Also, unless it's super private, you're not going to want your barn looking like you're housing a space ship in there from the outside.

Airflow, temperature, and smell will also be easier to control if you can create a tight box inside of the barn.

So, on second thought maybe you would construct your flower space, and leave the vegging and non-cannabis to just being in the barn... Airflow and temp and whatnot of the veg would be less regulated and more at the whim of ambient, but I bet you could get away with it most months of the year...

Some good idea's there friend. Could you perhaps provide me some links to some good info on creating a box, or small grow chamber. There is a loft that i think i could be turned into a flowering area.  And yes perpetual is probably the end goal here.

Any suggestions on if i should go full, clone, lst, etc?

Here's a video log of a modest grow from start to finish. It's old-ish, but entertaining and classic.  This guy uses mostly the space he already has with a bit of black plastic and velcro.

For framing, you can use the existing structure, wood, PVC pipe etc. and then partitioned or sheeted in plastic, vinyl, tarp, plywood, sheetrock etc.  And if you use your loft or whatever, it might just be one 'wall' made of these materials.  In the corner downstairs = two walls...
You could even go the expensive route and get a giant grow tent complete with zippers and flaps and velro for a couple hundred bucks... might be inspirational to look at if nothing else.

The shape of your plants is going to depend again on your plans for them.  If you just hang 4 1000w lights from the rafters and call it a day, you'll probably be growing full size christmas trees in there.  If your loft is only 5 feet tall in the center and sloping, you'll either be training, or closely controlling veg times and stretch of clones.  Doing your own cloning benefits under all circumstances.

Good lst and training resource: An Overview of Cannabis Training (ScrOG, SoG, FIM, Supercrop, LST, etc.)
