Looking into buying Bubble Bags
    #529670 - 02/22/11 09:49 PM (5 years, 9 months ago)

I have found many cheap sets on ebay, like this one

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-3-BAG-5-GALLON-BUBBLE-BAGS-ICE-HERBAL-EXTRACTOR-KIT-/260740506959?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb558654f#ht_1889wt_924

I was wondering if anyone has had any bad experiences with cheap non-name brand bubble bags?

Thanks

I think they'll work.  Just don't expect them to last as long as the authentic bubble bags would.  The ones that bubbleman sells are really top notch quality imo.  i've used a set of those.

All Google finds on springbags are purses.

How long would you say the authentic bubble bags can last on average?

not too sure.  probably longer than the knock offs though.  that information might be on the bubbleman page or forum.

I use knock-off bubble bags and they work great. These bags really aren't any big technological innovation, just some screen printing mesh and some sewing... The cheaper you can find them the better imo. If you have some time you can make a set pretty easily as well.

I have done both of these before, I just want to try making bubble hash at least once.

Can I use my silk screen to dry sift?  It seems to have tiny ass holes.

i use my bubble bags for dry sifting ,so your silk screen should work fine ,i use the 220 micron and it works fine ,120 would give a better grade though~

Depends on the size of the holes:
http://greasebenz.com/mesh.html

You want to start dry sieving with something in the 140μ-150μ range, though the starting material could first be put through either a grinder or metal mesh like in a colander from the kitchen first.

Depending on the starting material you may want another second screen below the first, maybe in the 90μ-120μ range.

But this is just my advice....folks get kief from covering the top of a jar with stretched pantyhose and shaking buds inside--- All depends on what you want to put into what you're doing.

Silkscreen will work, but it frays and the hole sizes move around (that's bad), over time.  Silkscreen is multifilament mesh while all commercialy available water-hash bags have monofilament mesh as filters.  I have some more info about the difference and why not to use silkscreen in a thread in the hash forum, though, again, it does work if you want to use it.  Be gentle.

Many, many sizes of polyester (polyethylene) monofilament mesh are available from Amazon.com for only a few dollars. Nylon mesh (like is used in BubbleBags) costs a few more dollars, but is also available.  Some metal meshes in the appropriate micron ranges can be found really cheap as well if you shop around on Amazon and Ebay- Iam pretty sure it's okay for me to mention these guys since both sites advertise with the Growery/Shroomery.

Great info Psuper

So here is a pic

based on your info and this pic I estimate my silk screen to be in the 149 - 125 micron range.  Sounds like it should work. Thanks!

I will start of course by shaking the screen as if panning for gold, tasty gold...
Next do I just gently rub the trim back and forth across the screen?

Yep.  Freeze your trim first than gently move it across the screen with a credit card or something similar.  Cure it for a bit before smoking it.

Smily on here used some buckets and some screen and I don't see why it wouldn't work just as good as authentic bubblebags, for heaps cheaper. It would be a bit more work to get a quality product as fitting bags into bags is easier than having to pour through bucket into bucket.
