IMO smaller bongs are more efficient...With larger bongs there's more volume inside so you're pulling more air initially.
I prefer a medium or small bong, around 24 inches or so. You don't have to pull as much air before the smoke reaches your lungs, and the smoke/hits are much much more dense since there is less volume to fill. The smoke doesn't have to expand or travel as far before it's going into your lungs...
I've never understood the point of large bongs (unless you're a bigger person or have a large lung capacity). And it sorta annoys me when people think bigger bongs rip harder. When in reality smaller bongs have more of a punch to them.
As far as the matter of smoking resin, of course I do it when there's no bud on hand (which is a rarity). The best resin is the stuff that collects within the down-stem after passing through an ash catcher. It has a yellow to light brown color, hasn't been touched by heat and there's no plant matter in it. This is the first cool surface the smoke touches and re-condenses on, it's mighty tasty and potent. Fuck that dark brown/black stuff (though desperate times do call for desperate measures  )
Now resin from vaporizers, psshh, that's a whole different story. Shit is incredibly potent, and taste amazing. I would have to say that stuff is around 65%+ THC content....I recently scraped an old volcano bag and got around 5 bong hits worth of a light brown/yellow gooey product. It bubbled and melted into nothing just like a high quality hash or hash oil does, tasted just like good hash, and got me very lifted

Haha I am poor and a student. I only get it about once a week, maybe less. So resin can be a blessing.

Yeah volcano resin ( or cano hash as I call it ) is fireeeee, its like a whole new way to make hash, Every time its been close to full melt
