Light to close or to much heat
    #500803 - 11/25/10 11:25 AM (13 years, 4 months ago)

Sup, last night i was using a light about 3 feet away from plant, this light creates alot of heat, was working good for about 3 weeks, but last night i tried to use aluminium foil to get more direct light on the plant. I woke up and the plant looked almost burnt and the stem almost dead, but the leaves are still green, just curly green. Is it to late to salvage this plant?

Aluminum foil is a poor reflective surface, it creates more hot spots and as you've just found out, burns the shit out of your plants :frown:

Pictures would help honestly, there's always a chance to salvage a plant but in some cases it's best to just scrap and start over.

what I have found with alunimum foil is excatly as coda said, it creates hot spots.  think of what you use "tin foil" for.  you cover your turkey with it so the bird doesn't burn but still trapping the heat to cook it through.  well in the growing aspect of it you are trapping all that heat and unintentionally cooking your plants.  Not to mention from what I have read it only reflects something like 50% of the light.  reflective mylar would be better with like 97% light reflection.  But the stuff isn't cheap.  white paint would be about the cheapest option.
I will now add my disclaimer.  I am not a seasoned grower.  Just speaking from personal experience and what I have read online.
good luck.

Good to know.  I might not use it next time and see how it goes.
