150W HPS Medium Bulb

do i need a ballast for a 150W HPS medium bulb or am i able to use a regular lamp with medium socket?

I think with all HID lights you need a ballast for ignition and what not.

You need a ballast. Unless your lamp says it is self-ballasted you will always need a ballast for HPS, MH, or fluorescent.

yeah, i am realizing that. been doing research on the cheapest ballasts; i didn't realize how much money and elements go into growing good bud.
