An interesting stance to take by a vet.

"I passed through towns with familiar names, through the pine forests and down to the prairie, and then to Vietnam, where I was a soldier, and then home again. I survived, but it's not a happy ending. I was a coward. I went to war."

Calls himself a coward for not choosing to go to Canada instead of Vietnam. Could you disagree with him though? Food for thought and self reflection. :dazedandconfused:

"To say that nothing is true, is to realize that the foundations of society are fragile, and that we must be the shepherds of our own civilization. To say that everything is permitted, is to understand that we are the architects of our actions, and that we must live with their consequences, whether glorious or tragic."

maybe after all these years he wishes he would have moved out of the country.  Perhaps because he didn't agree with the war in the first place.

I read that story freshmen year of high school.  Fairly boring.  I think I would not return to the US after that, and I would not feel bad about it.  Don't wanna end up like Epic Beard Man or worse.
