Any of you play Minecraft?

The last PC app/game I paid for was Spore (which I sold right after installing), but I bought Minecraft and I have to say I love it.

I originally pirated it, but I wanted all the updates, and, if you get it now, you get all the future updates/expansions for free, so nows the time to jump on it.

Its so fucking addicting :lol:

I hate paying for computer software. Which reminds me I need Spore and Starcraft II still

PC games are better IMO

Right now I am hooked on the newest version Command and Conquer: Red Alert II

I hate paying for it too. Hell, I pirate most every thing. I don't pay for movies or music or most video games (DS, still haven't chipped my PS3) but this is still early in development so I went for it.

It'll have tons of updates, so rather than look for a crack/manual patch every time, I'll just pay the $15 for it now :tongue2:

Spore is good the first time through...but has a surprising lack of replay value (which is the opposite of what you'd think)

Yah, I got hooked on minecraft a while ago.  I don't mind pirating stuff from the bigger studios now and then, but this game was 14 bucks for the longest time and it's an indie developer who made it.  Wasn't hard to pony up the cash for it.

I play Dwarf Fortress.

I think you can just download it from the main site and click "play offline". Theres no real crack for it, just get the exe.

But $20 for a beta? I guess I'm just spoiled by Steam sales, and I'm a total cheapskate now. :smirk:

I bet they make a KILLING with their sales.  Other game companies should sell cheaper, Valve has proven that people come out of the woodwork to buy cheap games.


But even then, some people are still too cheap and pirate. :nonono:


One day I hope consoles will offer their main titles w/ digital distribution too. (for cheaper)

To me it seems like the consoles are trying to make up ways to charge even more for digital copies, completely bullshit.

They release an unfinished game, most likely on purpose, so they can charge another 10-15 for "DLC" :rolleyes: In my day we called that an update and it game for free.

I can understand expansion packs, as usually a lot of work is put into them, but this DLC shit is a bad trend.

Interesting thing about both digital distribution of games AND Minecraft, the threads subject - When the game was taking off in popularity, the sales of his beta alone was something like $300,000 per day, for a week, and that went all to one guy, not a company and a dev team with marketing.

I probably would have just quit right then :awesome:

IDK. To me, its real fun and just too cool that one dude made it all himself, I don't mind giving him $15 for it. Fuck huge corporations that pumpout generic shitty games, I pirate those :lol:

But, since this is an individual, I feel bad pirating it.

I bought Minecraft before it even hit Alpha, so it was only about $13 and some change USD. Fuckin' love this game. :yesnod:

Ive been playin on a buddies computer, thought it was dumb.

But i have to say, its really fun, you can play for hours, find crazy caves that take you like 20 minutes underground. I could explain more but i think its something you just have to try.

You do whatever you want with the blocks. But also "bad things" come out at night and try to kill you. So you have to have shelter to hide in. Or something.... :shrug:


As for how complex, some guy built a working 16-bit computer INSIDE the game. Wrap your head around that one. :lol:

:awesurprise: My miiind... So he like.. Made all the functions work with basically, an animation made of blocks used like pixels..? That's insane..

I recently found a cave that I spent a couple of hours exploring. It's fun to just walk around and explore thing in the game too.

You can also build mine carts that go on tracks, weapons, shovels, picks and axes. Theres food you can cook and plants you can grow. You can *also* set up "electricity", more or less (switches to open doors,  etc).

The game doesn't teach you anything though. You're on your own mang.

Not with a hotkey or anything unfortunately. Which I hate. They should either introduce a perma-compass, a perma-teleporter, or a way of changing the spawn point.

By the way, using "420" as a seed for your map makes a REALLY AWESOME world.

You can change the spawn point, it takes a little bit of doing. Worth it though IMO. Just google it :] It might even be easier now, since I can't really play on my laptop without it breaking anymore :sad:

Ahahah ya that can happen alot. I started building hallways, sounds weird, but once you explore for hours you need to have a way to know where things are going.

I heard it takes quite a bit of resources to get one running, but I'd probably pop in if you got it going.
