TUSCALOOSA, AL (WAFF) - Agents with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force arrested 21-year-old Samuel Christopher Poppell, a University of Alabama student, and charged him with drug trafficking.

Agents arrested Poppell Sunday night during a traffic stop in the area of Highway 82 and Monticello Drive in Tuscaloosa .

In the vehicle, there was more than six pounds of high grade Marijuana, cocaine, and six-thousand dollars in cash.

After obtaining a search warrant for Poppell's residence at Sumner Place, agents found another two pounds of Marijuana, 30-40 vials of steroids, 1,000 unknown pills (agents are still trying to identify), 2 small bags of cocaine, multiple firearms including assault rifles, handguns, and shotguns early Monday morning.

"We know that he was going out of state to pick up the marijuana and bringing it back here. But the thing with him was he was distributing all this marijuana here locally," said Trent Kemp with the Alabama Narcotics Task Force.

Poppell was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (cocaine), and 2 counts of Trafficking in Marijuana.

He was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail Pending a $515,000.00 bond. Agents are submitting this case for Federal ICE Prosecution.

He is lucky it's going federal. He could get up to 30 years in jail alone for the mariuana in Mississippi, and the gun charges will just make that weed sentence go up since weapon violations usually aren't a big deal for CCW's except in 3-4 states.

An ICE case will give him 1-3 years for guns and 1-3 for the marijuana at the most. With a good lawyer he could probably get 3 years federal but more likely 5-6.

Not to mention when you are "effecting the community" in the deep south with drugs, those judge do NOT fuck around. I would be surprised if he got less than a decade in state courts.
