Quote: Ok /x/, I seem to have been out of the loop for a while. What's going on at UVB-76? A friend of mine told me that it broke its normal transmission of static noise and began issuing coordinates and other coded messages in Russian.
For those who don't know, UVB-76 is a Cold War-Era military radio station in Russia. These are its recent messages.
At 1335 UTC on August 23, 2010: "UVB-76, UVB-76, 93, 882, NAIMINA, 74, 14, 35, 74, 9, 3, 8, 8, 2, Nikolai, Anna, Ivan, Mikhail, Ivan, Nikolai, Anna, 7, 4, 1, 4, 3, 5, 7, 4" At 0654 UTC on August 25, 2010: "UVB-76. UVB-76. 38, 527. AKKRECIP, 36, 09, 55, 73". At 1153 UTC on August 25, 2010: "3, 8, 5, 2, 7, AKKRECIP, 3, 6, 0, 9, 5, 6, 7, 3".
This is a device that hasn't altered its broadcast since 2006, and the only times before that were in 1997 and 2002, and each year held only one message. It was quite busy during the Cold War, but has only delivered 6 messages since then, 3 of which have occurred within the last week.
