Question about trimming fan Leaves that Block Buds
    #445070 -

Growing under about 250 watts of CFL.  To Prune or not to Prune Fan leaves is the Question.  Should one do this.  Does it help the lower bud sites out or does it hurt the overall plant when you remove fan leaves?

Thanks

From what I understand, the Fan leaves are the "power plants" of your cannabis plant. That being said, one would definitely not want to cut out the power supply to your plant. You might consider tying the leaves against the branch to move it away from your lower buds, this will reduce stress given to your plant, and effectivily provide more light to your blocked bud sites.

From what I understand, clones of some strains will in fact benefit (that is, benefit in the harvest weight) from some selective pruning of fan leaves to allow better light penetration to buds through dense growth.

If that's nonsense then I totally stand to be corrected, but that is what I've learned from growers I talk to. ~P~

Well to give you good information here, You want your bud sites exposed to the light more than you want your many fan leaves. If you have to trim a single leaf off to get light to a large amount of sites do it.

Alternatively, if your plants are taller, you can simply clip off the lower branches to focus growth on the main bud sites and not worry about light getting to all the sites.

DungenessDank.  So are you talking about current bud sites (Flowering) or potential bud sites (vegetative growth).  I'm three weeks into flowering.  I would like to remove 1 or 2 fan leaves to get some light to some of the tallest side branches, but not hurt the flowering process.

I'd say if its just a few leaves to chop em off. It won't hurt your plant a bit.
