    #11595 - 04/24/08 02:28 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

Since Im not gonna pull my plant up at hareves time, Im just gonnna trim the buds off and re-veg and try to get a second and third harvest off of her.

What would be the best way to dry freshly picked buds?

Put them on a screen w/a fan blowing on them?

for you - put them in a brown paper bag , or leave them on top of an older tv [ the kind with minivents on the top] / behind a CRT computer monitor.

I already have a screen and a fan from when I used to grow mushrooms.

Wouldn't that work just as well?

I guess that would depend if you just want to fast dry them so you have some to smoke or if you want to do it the right way..

What is the "right way" to dry/cure weed?

I am ignorant of such issues

the "right" way involves a slow drying process (1-2 weeks) followed by a few weeks of curing in a jar.

There's about 80 bajillion different ways to dry your plant, some people build drying boxes, some hang whole plants, some hang just the buds, paper bag method etc. Basically it all depends on the space you have to work with, size of your harvest, and the amount of time and work you want to put into it.

It isn't a tek but I just created a document that has some information on different curing techniques. :hehehe:

So, basically, when you're drying your weed, you're trying to get all the moisture out of it, before it mildews.

Curring weed is trying to remove any contaminants in the weed, like resins and chlorophyll?

Or am I totally confused?

And why is sensimelia(sp) sometimes not cured?

This is pretty accurate. I've harvested many different ways but the important idea is to not dry too quickly or you lose quality. If you are doing a small amount of plants its pretty easy to just trim it right after harvest and then hang. If your humidity is really high you can have a dehumidifier on extremely low to prevent molding, but really if its just a couple of plants I wouldn't worry about mold unless they are some super dense purple strain like GDP.

1.) Yes that's one reason why you dry, the other is because it's not easy to smoke if it's wet

2.) No, not really, curing is a process which converts things like sugars and alkaloids to make your bud taste better, smoke smoother, and become more potent.  Chlorophyll is leached out mainly during the initial drying process.  If there is any left over when you jar them curing will help leach out any remaining chlorophyll.

3.) Time = money.  an extra two weeks to a month is extra time not getting paid.  Most commercial growers skip this step because they want to move the product quickly and don't care about making the buds better then they are.  That's my guess at least.
