FIRST GROW - GDP - Ebb and Flow
    #434645 - 06/18/10 01:54 AM (13 years, 9 months ago)

Hello fellow growery members!
So this is my first attempt at growing, i've helped a friend once before with a closet grow, but that was limited exposure. I've been reading and researching about marijuana cultivation for well over 2+ years now, so I feel like I am ready.

With that being said, I know I will make mistakes, I know I probably wont have the best bud on my first harvest, but Im humble enough to ask all of you for help.

So with out further introduction:

The Set-up:
Growing in a spare bedroom with:
Lighting: 600 hps
Ventilation: 160CFM inline fan w/carbon filter
Genetics: GDP Clones
Hydro: Ebb and Flow
Nutrients: Humboldt Nutrients (just the Grow-Micro-Bloom)

I planted the clones in Rockwool cubes on June 3rd, 2010.

and now some pictures:

I have been keeping a semi-daily log in a little composition notebook, so i'll catch you guys up on where my grow room and plants are:

So June 3rd was the day I got the babies into the rockwool cubes.

June 3rd
PH: 5.5-6.0 (tested with GH drops, not very confident in my color matching skills)
PPM: First 800(when added nuts at what the bottles said to do per liter) then adjusted to 600 to try and be on the safe side.
Notes: flooding every 12 hours

June 4th
PH: 5.5-6.0
PPM:  580
Notes: added 10 gallons of water to my res before testing testing PPM. then added nutrients to bring it up to 580

June 6th
PH: 5.5-6.0
PPM:570
Notes: added 110ml of 29% H2O2 (had experienced slight mildew like smell in res and when I put my nose right up on the rockwool) I also went thru and covered my clear tubing with black electrical tape and positioned heavy duty black pastic garbage bags over the res lid to ensure NO LIGHT would get into my tubing or res)  .. Started watering only once a day

June 8th @ 2:00am
PH:5.7-6.2
PPM:570-580
Notes: added 50ml H2O2 to res. Mildew like smell has already started to dissipate, though there is still a slight smell in res I smell the plastic more. Smell on rock wool cubes still there, though it appears to have weakened. I didn't water at all today(June 7th) trying to let the rock wool cubes dry out to stimulate root growth/trying not to have a ripe enviroment for molds/mildews.

June 8th @ 9am
PH:5.5-6.2
PPM: 590
Notes: Flooded tray this morning, first time watering/feeding since June 6th at 1:00pm(44hours) rock wool had dried to the point of being light but still had moisture inside.

June 9th
PH:5.8-6.3
PPM:590-600
Notes: Mildew(algae) like smell from res essentially completely gone. Added 10-15ml H2O2 as preventative measure.
Plants looking fairly healthy, some "burnt" drying/curling leaves on almost every plant. Also, several yellow/yellowing leaves throughout garden.

June 10th
PH:5.8-6.3 (before water) 5.7-6.2 (after water)
PPM: 600(before water) 500(after water)
Notes: to bring PPM down to 500 added 2 gallons of distilled water. Also, trimmed the more than 75% dead/dry/yellow leaves. (i made the cuts with clean swiss army scissors i had rinsed in 70& alcohol and made the cuts right where the stem held the leaf.
Flooded tray at 12:30pm

June 12th
didnt do anything with garden except flood at 12:30am(night of the 11th)

June 13th
Before adding or doing anything:
PH: 6.0(golden piss color)
PPM: 550
Notes: Tested PPM meter against standard solution of 1500ppm and it tested at 1490-1500ppm
Added to Res: 6 gallons of distilled water. Plus I assumed I had at least 5 gallons still in res, added 28ml H2O2 to res. let the water sit for 15-20 min before adding any nutrients. Added the ratio the nutrients label called for but in smaller amounts to get my PPM up to 490.
after adding water/nuts
PH: 6.0 (golden yellow piss color)
PPM: 490
Flooded tray afterwards at 12:00pm  .. again trimmed off all 75% or more dried/dead/yellowed leaves (mostly towards bottom of plant)

June 14th
Flooded tray at 6:30pm

June 15th @7:30pm
Today I bought my garden a Hygro-Thermometer with max/min readings, an aquarium thermometer and a digital PH tester to ensure higher accuracy.
Temp: hi/low 84° (temp when thermometer was first put up)
Humidity: hi/low 32% (again when hyrgo-thermometer first put up)
PH:not tested
PPM: not tested

June 15th @ 11:45pm
Temp: hi/low 77°/87.2°
Humidity: high/low 30%/52%
PH: 5.7-6.1
PPM:500
Res Temp: 69°
Added: 30ml H2O2 .. Mixed ratio of nutrients called for on label at high strenth(enough for several gallons) and put it inside one gallo jug of distilled water.  Topped of res with distilled water then added mixture slowly until ppm was at 470-480

June 16th
Nothing tested filled tray at 11pm

June 17th
Didn't do anything except spend a few minutes admiring my small garden. rock wool cubes getting pretty light debating whether to flood tray now, or wait until early afternoon of June 18th.

June 18th @ 1:30am
Temp: hi/lo 82.4°/77.0°
Humidity:hi/lo 32%/25%
Res Temp: 68°
PH: 5.8
PPM: 470-480
Notes: added 35ml of H2O2, didn't flood tray, going to wait until I wake up. when i pick up the cubes there is still some moisture weight but they're getting pretty light and airy.

Now some pics of the girls take just now:

June18th 9:30am
Didnt test anything, flooded tray

June 19th @ 10:30am
Temp: hi/lo 78.2°/75.6°
Humidity:hi/lo 36%/33%
Res Temp: 65°
PH: 5.7
PPM: 500
Flooded tray at 11pm

June 21st @ 11pm
Temp: 82.4°/81.2°
Hum: 35%/33%
Res Temp: 67°
PH: 5.6
PPM: 500
Flooded tray at 11pm
Notes: added 35ml H2O2 after flooding tray

June 22nd @ 8pm
Notes: Flused every plant with just distilled water, four gallons total for entire tray (10 plants)

Here's some pictures of the plants from right now, please give me any advice to help my baby girls!!

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!  :thanx:

Let me be the first to say: Good job! For your first time, your room is setup well, you seem to have everything in order, your log is put together very well. I'll be keeping up with this as GDP is one of my favorites, I wish I could grow it out, damn clone only strains and non med states.. Maybe one day I'll meet someone cool enough to overnight me clones. :yesnod:

I see good things in the future coming from this grow, if theres anything you need help or advice on don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the feedback! I would love any suggestions/advice on why my plants seem to be not as green as the should be. I've got the ph dialed in to where it belongs, I don't think I'm over watering, I'm not going crazy on the ppm.  Any suggstions would be greatly appreciated.

@diesel: thanks man for the kind words, I'm really enjoying my new hobby so far.

No problem, to me it looks like they did have a Ph problem, but should be fixed now. Watch them for a couple days to see when new growth resumes, just pay close attention and the next change will indicate whether or not they are still unhappy.

Thanks bro.. what would you say (and i know there is some debate here) the best PH is because ive been trying to keep it right at the 5.8-6.0 level, is this about right? would you suggest up or down?

Thank you again everyone for your help, as they say it takes a village!
:thanx:

6.0 is the highest you wanna go with hydro, I try to stay at 5.7-5.9, occasionally I'll let it hit the low side of 5.5-5.6

Turn off your HPS and take a good natural-colored photo, then we can give you proper diagnosis.  It looks starving for N at first glance but it could be iron, I just don't know in that lighting...
