sick seedling
    #428079 - 06/03/10 05:43 AM (13 years, 9 months ago)

i've used the diagnostics checklist but it doesnt seem really relevant to my plants because they are just finishing their 2nd set of true leaves.

they were doing fine in the same setup until 3 days ago and they just slowly started to looking ill. the leaves aren't droopy or yellow or anything, just have just started curling slowly over the course of the last 3 days.

so here is my question, ive been watering with tapwater, i just recently set out a jug to de-chlorinate, but before this i wasnt. is that a big problem?

also do i need to be checking the PH this early on?

they have plenty of light, temp is good, and there is plenty of fresh air.

i am stumped

yes thats a huge problem and the cause of your problems

flush the soil with water that has been properly balanced for pH and it will recover within a few days

ok, so i left water out to sit for the last 48 hours, is that PH balanced for now or do i need to go get some PH up/down additives?

also i put on a humidifier blowing in its genereal direction, i thought maybe the air was too dry.

ok i answered my own question about the PH, and so i ordered a tst kit and some up and down.

problem is: it doesnt get here for another 3 days D:

they dont sell test strips anywhere around here so i cant even temporarily adjust the PH with vinigar or baking soda!

edit: i'm using scott's premium potting soil.

also, if i juswt go buy distilled water, is that in the right PH range?

edit 2: deer park water reports its water between 5.07 and 7.4 i know it needs to be 6.3-7.3 tho. any thoughts?

The distilled water I buy is usually at between 5.5 - 6.5 and usually at 6 PPM. I never have to adjust my distilled water until I start adding things to it. Sounds like your tap water is just as sucky as mine so I wouldn't use it any more if I were you.

The water out of your tap is probably really high ph. The distilled water will be better then that tap water no matter what. Get the distilled water for now until you can at least properly test your tap water.

shit so i went all the way to the store, and got smart water because its ph is supposed to be nuetral, i gte home and realize it has electrolytes added to it!

its things like calcium chloride and the such, which is like salt right? which is bad right? so back to the store for some deer park.

Wiki says it is harmless to plants, I however would not use that water. Just plain distilled water is what I would use.

i thought overwatering is a long term thing...as in, you wouldnt be able to overwater a plant just by watering multiple times for 1 day only.

ok well i just filled the planters with about an inch of water 4 times and let it drain through. i didnt know you had to space this out for flushing, i thought you did it all in 1 day.

yah you should be fine so long as you let your soil dry before you water again

So you did it just fine for flushing.  Typically a flush usually deals with 3 times water to the amount of medium you have.  So for a 5 gallon pot you would put 15 gallons through it.  Then just wait until the soil is fairly dry before watering it again.

I'm sorry no one has been very specific as what you are supposed to do so far.  I use 30 gall on containers so I have to run at a minimum 60-90 gallons through my soil to flush.  And this needs to happen in the 12 hours that the lights are on.  So don't worry about over watering your roots if your doing it in a flushing type of circumstance.  The same principals are different when your looking at long term watering and not letting it get dry enough in between.

i may be hallucinating but it almost seems like they are doing a little better today.

as i said thy nevr ever looked sickly whatsoevre, and at first i was conjsidering that they were just curling to reach all three sources of lights which arc over the seedlings almost like a rainbow.

<3 thanks again guys. im perma addicted now. last time i felt this way with shrooms this is what ended up happening:

lolol.
