I buy video games for online multiplayer (because that gets me the best return of entertainment per dollar, im on over 70 hrs of game play right now, and have spent around 75 dollars on the game and downloads).
So xbox is the superior choice because xbox live multiplayer is > PS3 multiplayer.

My PS3 does a great job at being a dust magnet and paperweight. It's only redeeming quality is the fact that it's a blue ray player. My GF is a sony fangirl (which is why I bought the damn thing) and even she thinks the PS3 was a waste of cash. Sucks too because the PS2 killed the xbox in terms of, uh, well everything. They fell flat on their face with the PS3 though. Now they're scrambling trying to compete with the wii and the 360, they Move controllers that are coming out are going to fail pretty miserably.
Anyways, RDR is fucking sweet. Picked it up on release day and it hasn't left the drive. I love the multiplayer free roam, that shit is fun as hell. The other MP matches i think are pretty shitty. Controls are clunky, the games are confusing, so I generally stay away from them and just free roam. If I want MP action like the gang matches, I'll pop in MW2 and play a FPS.

Actually Xbox online play kicked any PS2 online play to the curb.
I've been a member of Xbox live for 5 years. So I would certainly know, I've almost been a member as long as possible.
Like I said, I'm an online gamer. I find offline gaming extremely unrewarding.

I feel the same way about xbox live, but the thing is you're paying for the service. If I'm paying 60 bucks a year for online play, it had better be good. With sony, the online stuff is free so they've got a little leeway if things are not as nice as the pay service.
I love online play too, but it seems as though I'm only enjoying it when with a group of friends. I stopped playing MW2 online solo because it was just too damn boring, throw 4 of my friends in the mix and I could play for days non stop.

I'm in the sixties on my second prestige. The game is good, it just gets boring without friends to play with. I can't stand putting public chat on, fuck that shit, I'd rather hear nothing.
