noobie needs help!

Hello all, I just registered for this site, but have been reading as a guest for almost 4 months now. Thanks to everyone for all the informative teachings of the experts. I have been searching, but have yet to come up with an answer for a question I have, which is why I registered. Enough banter, on to the question. I am in my sixth week of flowering ak 47 and original haze x skunk. The ak47 doesn't seem to be doing too bad, but not as dense and thick as I would have imagined it to be, and the original haze is wispy, and no density whatsoever! Really depressing since I have been at this for almost 4 months now. I have been using a 400w hps the entire time, both for veg and flower, and have been on a 12/12 schedule for approximately 6 wks now. I have had the lights on at night, and off during the day so that the heat outside doesn't run my a/c bill sky high. I am wondering if my plants would turn hermie if I changed that for the last few weeks of flowering, and took my plants outside for the glorious sunlight to increase yield? Thanks in advance for any info.

Hi, and welcome.
If you were further into flowering I'd say give it a shot, but by the sounds of it your particular strain needs a lot longer to flower.
If you really want to do it, the best way would be to let your lights run on the plant all night as usual, then when then sun is up move the plant outside.
I gotta add something to this though. In my last grow, I grew powerhaze which is 100% sativa. My buds were very wispy and not very dense either. Another grower on here named inbred gimp, had similar results with his sativa dom plant. I think the wispyness may simply be a trait of the strain you are growing. I'm not 100% on this however.

So wait, your recommending he take his plants, which have been flowering for 6 weeks and have a ways to go, and extend there light schedule? I would think that's asking for hermies man.
If you want to get more light on them get another light. I know the sun is free. But I wouldn't fuck with the light schedule of my plants in the middle of flwoering.

Thanks for the quick response Spency. The ak47 is 65% sativa, and 35% indica according to nirvana. I am not sure. I am waiting on a 30 X magnifier right now so that I can gauge the trichs. Everywhere I have read, it states that ak47's flowering time is 55-60 days, but I know that isn't a hard and fast rule from what I have read on here. I have also read that if you are off by more than a little while on your light cycle, it can turn the plant hermie, and that is my biggest fear. I believe you are totally correct on the strain thing though. The haze is almost totally sativa, and will flower for about 12 weeks, so I am not that worried about that yet. Just want a good yield on the ak47, as it is the most potent. Peace

Thanks hawks for the response. that is what was bothering me. I wasn't worried about the sun being free! lol. but it's true brother. I was more worried about getting them as much light as possible in the last couple of weeks. I will just keep them under the hps for now, and hope for the best I guess.

Right, but if he did do it, he should extend his light cycle, rather than going into dark cycle briefly and then out into the sun which would be even worse. Having now realized the redundancy of my previous post, I now would like to retract all that I have said in this thread.

I would never recommend changing your light cycle so drastically, but if he had to I would recommend extending the dark period instead of the light period. I think the plants would do much better with a 24 hr dark schedule than a 24 hr light period during the switch.

That's what I was saying. If he has to do it, he should extend his light cycle. Which, obviously now I realize, isn't entirely the best way to go about.
