uh, regardless of what type of plant it is, every living thing on this earth needs food to live. If it's a weed, or a flower, if you don't feed it it will die.
ofcourse it needs nutrients but most soil has already some bit of nutrients in it... i know people who grew just outside in soil and left it alone and it grew bud not the best quality but it still grew.
