Psychopharmacology
    #413173 -

I really dig psychopharmacology it is very interesting.

I like learning about how drugs work in our brain and how they interact with our body.

:drugnerd:

What are some interesting psychopharmacology facts or cool things you have learned about such subjects.

I guess I like the mechanism of action part the most.

I'll start. :crazy2:

Some NMDA receptor antagonists, including ketamine (K), dextromethorphan (DXM), phencyclidine (PCP), Ibogaine, and nitrous oxide (N2O) are popular as recreational drugs for their dissociative, hallucinogenic, and/or euphoriant properties. When used recreationally, they are classified as dissociative drugs. Because some users use them for spiritual reasons, these recreational NMDA receptor antagonists are sometimes considered to be entheogens.

Salvia, ketamine, and DMT all have some, not all, receptors in common.

Question for you guys.
I heard that serotonin and nonepiniephrin are responsible for the high of orgasm. But... isn't oxytocin also? Is serotonin relationship with orgasm the reason why SSRI's fuck, pun intended, with sex drive?

A few more...

The atropine class of drugs is named after a greek goddess of death
 not really MOA but still

people who use ayahuasca have more serotonin receptors than those who do not

xanax, alcohol, and other gabba drugs can cause anterograde amnesia.

The function of the sigma receptors is poorly understood[4] though an endogenous ligand, dimethyltryptamine, was found to interact with sigma-1.[5][6] Activation of sigma receptors by an agonist ligand may induce hallucinogenic effects and also may be responsible for the paradoxical convulsions sometimes seen in opiate overdose. Drugs known to be sigma agonists include cocaine, diacetylmorphine, PCP, fluvoxamine, methamphetamine, dextromethorphan, and the herbal antidepressant berberine. However the exact role of sigma receptors is difficult to establish as many sigma agonists also bind to other targets such as the κ-opioid receptor and the NMDA receptor. In animal experiments, sigma antagonists such as rimcazole were able to block convulsions from cocaine overdose. Sigma antagonists are also under investigation for use as antipsychotic medications.

Tylenol, acetaminophen, ability to stop pain is because of an endogenous Cannabinoid.

Menthol also acts as a weak kappa Opioid (same as salvia) receptor agonist.

I always thought an orgasm's euphoria was more of a dopamine thing.

That too I believe.

Can someone list all endogenous psychedelic chemicals?

Also, drugs that block their actions?

DMT is actively transported across the brain blood barrier, a characteristic unique to DMT.

DMT and psilocin differ by only 1 oxygen molecule, dr rick strassman suggests it is the orally active form of DMT.
