Destroying budworms
    #387964 -

Checking the plant today I found I might be fighting a budworm infestation. What ways are there to get rid of these bastards when my plant is already into flowering?

there are some non-toxic sprays that you can use if you have to....i would just get a ton of lady bugs if you can and open the box, place it under the tree and let them dominate

but,

i would hit it with a spray of some sort...umm,

Bacillus(BT)

you can get it at any garden shop

That BT stuff looks like the shit.
I'll have to check if the local Bunnings sells ladybirds but if not it looks like it'll be:

Have you had any experience using it while budding? How much time should I need before harvest to use it on the buds?

What are budworms? what are the signs that I might have them?

Oh and as a fellow Aussie Snurry I'm sorry to inform you that you cannot get ladybirds at Bunnings, well at least not the one I go to

That plant is looking like a beast man, can't wait to see the harvest :bongload:

Figured as much, I've seen worms, but not ladybirds, in any store.

Budworms aren't large so they're hard to spot but there's a few things to check for. There's a distinctive chewing of leaves near the bud they host. Moths on or around the plants are another sign. And of course the brown, rotting, eaten bud; which can sometimes be covered in a small web.

I'll get a couple of photos tommorow of the eaten leaf and bud to give you an idea.

I ended up buying this:

Apparently the same sort of  bio-pesticide but the main ingredient is Spinosad, which can be used within 1 day of harvest for tomatos. So I assume 14 days should be sufficient. I'll report back on how effective it is.

I think you would want 30 days after use or longer.

That'd be nice but I don't think it's possible.

The first harvest will be in 2-4 weeks, and the budworms may be back within a fortnight. There isn't much I can do now except keep the weeds clear, sprayed, and pray it pulls through without much damage to the yield. I'd say they've already destroyed an ounce worth at harvest time.

It's only been a couple of days since I sprayed, but there are a fuckton of moths gathering in my plant again. Anyone got ways of keeping them away this close to harvest. I don't want them laying more eggs that hatch  a few days before harvest.
