I'd like to build my own grow closet. The dimensions are 96 inches high, 24 deep, and 75 inches wide. Those are approximate and not exact. I used a tape measure to get the dimensions but I didn't feel like trying to get in the closet to see the exact mark with all the stuff in there right now. I think I only want about 3 plants. Was thinking perhaps doing a hydroponic set up. I have about 1000$ to play with. I have assistance from people who have carpentry and home building as well as botany backgrounds. I am considering a tent or just a locked up closet. The thing that seems like it would be an annoyance is the depth of the closet because it is more on the wide side and not very deep so not much walk around space or much section either. What would really help me out is some specs on what kind of lights to buy and such.

With that kinda space, if it was feasible, I would just seal up the closet. That's extremely similar to what mine is.
Once you take care of everything, expect your working capital spent. Possibly a few dollars less, probably a few dollars more.
I'd recommend at least 400w HID in that space(for max potential), I chose a 600W and it matches up pretty well. You just need to remember you need a way to cool the room, at minimum a cooled reflector and exhaust fan. With the money you could probably pull off getting a Lumatek ballst, known quality brand.
Look around at the different aspects of the hooby, and attack the search engine with every related word you can think of. You'll be rollin' in no time.

Cool thanks for the help. Name brands to look for really would be a good thing for me to know. I was looking at possibly following this tek I saw yesterday. What I'm likely to do is get a tent but I saw a really nice large cabinet the other day also that would be cool if I set it up with some mylar or something. Is that tek ok for all 3 stages? I'm gonna guy one of those seedling starters that's about 10 inches tall then transfer it to that thing.
This also looked cool but I'm not sure how secure this is. http://www.growery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/313135

Spacing on that aero setup seems really close to use for flowering too, I think it's intended to get swapped for flower. Though, if you wanted to flower early enough and maybe choose a low branching strain it would probably be alright.
Aero is great, no direct experience, but lots of people have great results with it. It's also generally recommended as a more advanced method, and not so much for beginners. Confidence and research go a long way though. Some people can jump right into something like this with no experience and do great, some people can also kill off a crop in 72 hours.. Research is key.
