Lighting question
    #383405 - 03/14/10 09:10 AM (14 years, 18 days ago)

Will using my HPS (150w) at this height even help my plants at all?

I don't want to move them closer, because I want to use my CFLs as well. I guess I could go for it an re-mount everything...but I was just planning on using the CFLs until I saw some sex from the plants...but they aren't growing so well from just the CFLs, so I said fuck it and added the HPS today.

My question is, is it even effective at this distance? They are still babies, and I don't want to burn them...

I have to find some ventilation for this thing...FAST.

Sorry for the image. The HPS fucks with the refresh rate on my shitty camera lol.

Why should that mean it isn't real?

you need to grow them out a little (at least 3 nodes) until you drop the hps closer (same with the cfls). if you end up keeping the hps high above the canopy, the plants will stretch, and the buds will look wispy.

I went a bit overboard with...well, everything  so, the plants are a bit burned on the tips...they've been going so damn slowly, I couldn't wait too much longer.

I know they will stretch. I'm asking if this is OK for now, or beneficial at all to them.

Also - once they are a bit larger, and closer to the CFLs, will it stop them from stretching to the HPS?

No, they were a kind donation.

They broke the dirt about 2 weeks ago, but weren't "open" until about a week ago.

See? Going real slow for some reason

they popped through the surface but took a week to pop open the cotes?  You've got problems somewhere else besides lighting.

What's your soil composed of?  I'm tempted to say a Ph problem is headed your way.

No, not so much a week to open up...I can't think of the word I'm looking for. More like a week to start their second leaf set.

And I WAS using straight coir, but I have transplanted them to FF Ocean Forest. I think at first they were a little shocked from the nutes in the soil, but all the growth since has been without any burns.

Growth is slow until roots develop.

Did you cut the OF down at all either with perlite or some other form of soiless mix?  Sometimes the OF soil is way to hot out of the bags for seeds, and it doubles the problem if the strain you are growing is sensitive to feedings.

Anyways, just keep your eye on them and NO FOOD until they've really taken off and started growing in their true leaf sets.  OF soil is super super rich and you can go a month easy without any food if need be.

OK. I'll just give 'em water from now on then

Never had all the nutes, correct lighting, nice soil, etc...so, now that I do, I was excited to use them all

I hear you, but one of the most important things about feeding is knowing when not to .  Plants that small planted in a really rich soil, like OF, will be taken care of the nutrients in the soil for at least a few weeks.

Anyways, just give them water and watch them.  If the need food they'll tell you.  Fixing an underfeeding problem is probably the easiest thing to do
