Growing in Grow Bags?
    #375473 - 02/28/10 06:38 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

I've got 2 gal bags but they are become much bigger than the dimensions of the bag(5 x 7). Also becoming round.

Feel I'll run out of soil way to fast.

Any suggestions on loading the 2 gal bags.

If no one come up with anything will have to use 1 gal bags.

Did you expect them to stay flat? 5x7 isn't even enough space for 1 gallon. Think of a milk jug, it's bigger than 5x7.

2 gallon bags are awesome! I will continue to use them until I upgrade my light. My suggestion is to buy more dirt. If you grow in soil and want serious buds then you need to buy some serious dirt.

2 gallons is NOT a lot of root space. 1 gallon is way too small. I think you'd regret going with 1 gallon.

I just bought some 3 gal grow bags.  I don't think that I like them though.  When I got to water I have to do it in REALLY small amounts, otherwise the water just runs straight out.

But to answer your question, get more soil as was said before.

We'll I don't think that's that's the problem.  What's happening is that the soil shrinks away from the bag when it starts to dry up.  So that when you go to water it just runs down the side of the bag in between the soil and the bag.  So unless you do little amounts at a time to get the soil to expand again you waste a lot of water when you go to feed your plants.

I'm switching back to regular plastic pots.

That's what's up. Grow bags. Plastic pots. It is really just a matter of          preference and opinion. Try them both and see which one you like best. Your plants will have a one gallon to one foot ratio. One gallon of soil is needed for each foot of growth. Starting them in a one one to two gallon pot would be a good start. When the plants reach one to two feet tall you will want to consider transplanting to a bigger container.:goodluck:

I was just reading that the way to prevent that separation between medium and container is to lightly till the surface "crust" at least every time you water.  With a fork or whatever.
