Well I tested the runoff and it was around 6.5 So its not too basic. I went ahead and mixed some nutes in to some water and had to use both Ph up and Ph down to get it right around 6.0. If I remember correctly, thats where I want to be at for hydro. But I need to know whether or not I should give this little one some food or not.

I'm not a hydro guy, but I think 6 is too high for hydro...not sure though.

Yeah I think it might be a little high, Integra told me. I gotta look up what he said. I think he said something like 5.8 or something.

ahh he said 5.5 at this point I do believe. Good call man, I will adjust it before I give them a feeding. So on to my next question. Should I feed soon?

I would say in a day or two yes.

And my opinion on PH is 5.8 to 6.2.

I would wait until the plant uses up most of its energy from the cotyledon to feed.

Stay on the low side for hydro, the high side for soil. Of course its gonna vary plant to plant.

Thanks for the responses you two. So, I'm thinkin I might feed its first dose of nutes tomrrow depending on what the cotyledon leaves look like.

I'm using 1/4th strength. What I'm most worried about is getting the PH exact. Will adding Ph up and Ph down hurt my plants at all? What I'm asking is if I add quite a bit, but its balenced will it hurt my plants? Or am I ok as long as its balanced?

You want Ph to be around 5.8 when feeding veg nutes and 6.0-6.1 when feeding flowering nutes.  Nitrogen is best absorbed in hydro @ 5.8 and P + K best absorbed in the low 6's.  So honestly if you keep your feedings between 5.8 and 6.1'ish you'll be just fine.

You don't want to venture too far from 6.1 because then you'll be locking out your micros (Fe, Mg, Zn).

I've always wondered about this too... Is there such thing as too much PH up and down?  At what point do you just throw the whole gallon out?

Coda was right on the money with that.  Good advice.

You shouldn't need to use more than a few drops of either UP or DOWN to change it man, if you keep overdoing it each direction you are going to taint your water with that stuff.  It's always better to under-correct than over-correct.

Alright well I gave her the first dose of nutes just a few minutes ago. I couldnt really tell if the Ph was 5.8 or 5.9 or somethin cuz my bottle doesnt tell me that stuff lol. So I just got it as close to 6.0 as I could. Hope thats alright. I did probably use more Ph up and Down than I should have. But we will see. I decided to feed because one of the leaves was yellowing at the tip. Hope she is alright through this feeding, it will make me more confident that I did everything right. I also checked the Ph of the run-off and it was 6.0 so I think I did everything alright.

As much as it sucks to waste nutrients, I follow this rule: if I have to adjust more then 4 times, dump out the gallon and start again.  This is how I Ph my water:

1.) Mix in all nutrients I will be using for the jug
2.) Shake vigorously
3.) Let sit for a minute or two (I'm usually mixing up a few jugs anyways)
4.) Test TDS to see if I need to add in more of a specific nutrient (usually don't need to)
5.) Test Ph of solution once TDS is deemed ok
6.) Usually my solution is too basic, so I start with a 1/4 tsp of Ph down
7.) Shake mixture after Ph adjustment, let sit for a minute or two (not sure if this is necessary, but I just like to let it sit to absorb fully)
8.) Test Ph again, by this point if I'm off it's usually only by .2-.4
9.) If too acidic I take a straw, dip it in Ph up, cover one end to form a vacuum, and drop the Ph up into the water (usually amounts to just a few drops) Obviously use Ph up if your solution is too basic
10.) Shake solution, let sit, test again

So by step ten the max adjustments I'll have made is two.  If i fuck up on step 9 and added too much I'll correct and test again.  Finally if i fucked up I will correct one last time and test again.  If by that point I'm STILL a dumbass and over corrected, I bite the bullet, dump the jug, and start over from step one.  Granted this is most likely not possible if you're running something that uses a reservoir and a lot of water, but for me mixing up a gallon of nutes isn't too much of a loss if I have to start over again.

I will point out this though, pay attention to your mixtures!  If you know the 1 tsp of FN Grow + 1 tsp of Kool Bloom + 1/4 tsp of Ph down brings you to 6.0, then that solution will almost always come out to the same Ph and TDS every time!  That way if you have to adjust it will usually be by such a small amount that it will be hard to over correct and you wont have to spend time, or waste nutes, to balance out your Ph.  I made the mistake of just eyeing out my Ph down before I started measuring it because I always seemed to over correct on my second go around.  Now I use a 1/4 tsp to start and only have to adjust by .2-.3 so it's less likely I'll be dumping my jug.
