 Brita water filter?

Could this make my water PH neutral? Or just take out chlorine? Does anyone know? I know it has a carbon filter on it.....thinking maybe I could put it to good use.

Nope what? If you arent gonna help me then dont post here. I've been reading and it seems like it does in fact lower PH levels. And takes out chlorine.

In theory it should just remove everything that isn't water, correct? pH change will only be a result of chemical colloids being removed, but it won't filter out pure hydronium ions (that are responsible for pH to begin with)

I dont know what it does exactly. But I'm thinking that it might remove at least chlorine. So I think I will use it. I might do a little experiment.

Test the PH before and after filtering to see if it helps. If it doesnt though I will use it for chlorine. So I dont have to set my water out overnight.

you don't have to set your water out overnight anyway. most cities add chloramines now instead of regular chlorine anyway, and those don't evaporate

Well that cant be good for your plants can it? The filter is supposed to remove a lot of stuff. So it would probably be better for my plants right.

I guess I just don't understand what your criteria is for "better."
I suppose in a state like yours filtering the water would be better because they add tons of chemicals to municipal water supplies, but out here it's all from aquifers and wells so most of the non-water substances in our water are basically just more nutrients

Exactly you probably get your water from springs or mountians. I have chemically water here. So I figured it would help.

My experience with Britta filtered water is that it lowers the pH too much. After I added nutrients the water, the pH was in the mid 4s range, which was too low. I have ceased to use Britta filtered water and just use tap water that has been allowed to sit out in uncapped gallon jugs for anywhere from a day to several days.

I think keeping pH up and down is critical for any garden. I paid about $13 for each, and each is enough to last me a very long time. It is very concentrated.
As far as the Brita filter goes, I am not sure about it removing chlorine, but that is cool if it does. It should lower the amount of TDS, giving you a lower base PPM or EC to start with, so that there is more leeway for adding nutes before you reach a toxic level of TDS that your plants cannot handle.

That's me. I fill 3, gallon milk jugs about once every 3-4 days. I deal with a high pH and sitting out does NOT change that, but when I was at the hydro shop last time, they gave me a free 8oz bottle of pH neutralizer. Pick up a bottle of that, it is cheap. I only use a few drops and it lowers my pH from the 8's down to 7.0 flat, then I add a small amount of nutrients to every watering (I know that's not normal but it works for me ) and retest it and it comes out at about 6.0-6.5.
The nice thing about the neutralizer is that if it's an acidic solution it will bring it back to 7, and if it's alkaline, it will also bring it back to basic.

 So this was my waters PH before using the Brita Water Filter (Around 8.5.)
 And this was it after filtration (around 6.5)
I thought this was kind of interesting, so I used that water to expand my jiffy pellets. I know that floragrow will drop my PH so I will probably just use straight up tap water.

Protip, when you compare the color make sure it's white lighting and stand it up and make sure its exactly half filled and use 4-5 drops.
I use the same kit.
If you have it laying down the color is diffused and won't be accurate but holy shit blue!?!?! That is higher than 8.5 my friend. Oh and shake the bottle first.

SOOOO... I went searching on the web and it pulled up your question. The reason I was searching was because i wanted to also know how well others had fared using the brita. For the longest time I kept losing plants because of the PH... I decided to just see if using the brita would work. For me it brought my ph down to about 6.7 I also made out my nutes in the brita filtered water my plants absolutely love it!!! I don't even mess with the ph balancing kit anymore. Try it i think that if your water is nuetral to begin with that it will bring it down especially if your using FoxFarm soil.i'm seeing rapid growth, its kind of scary/
