There's your diagram and here's a quick rundown on the system.
Original Hempy Substrate mixture:
3:1 ratio of perlite to verm. I have 5 quart buckets so I ended up 3 quarts of perlite and 1 quart of verm. Mixed that together dumped it in, and just used more perlite to fill in the remaining space.
Note: You can grow in straight perlite if you wish, I'm noticing they want to be watered a little quicker then those with the verm in them though. So if you go the straight perlite route it's possible to be a little more work in the end.
The bucket creates a reservoir at the bottom, the hole you drill in prevents you from over watering your plant. I highly suggest using a steady container like a watering can and remember how much water it takes to cause it to dribble out. That way you know how much to pour for each plant and can gauge how much water and nutes you'll need per feeding.
I have a little metal watering can that if i fill up almost all the way to the top, will not cause my plants to overflow if they're dry. I get about three plants worth per gallon of water so to do 8 plants I need 3 gallons of mixture. It leaves me with a little left over, but feedings come quick so I don't mind storing it.
As for nutes I can highly recommend the Flora Nova Series. It's a little pricey at around 30 dollars or so per quart, but it's a one part system that gives your plants EVERYthing they need. All vital macro and micro's are in there. I'm using this line exclusively with no extra additives (save for maybe some molasses at the end) just to see how well it works by itself. Lots of people use it, and I love it so far, so it's worth the extra cash IMO.
While the root systems are smaller, you may have to water a little bit daily to give the plant the food and hydration it needs. But once the root system takes off you'll water about every 2-3 days. If your plants get big enough, you may find yourself watering once a day. But that's only towards the end of the grow cycle anyways.
Other then that the same rules still apply. Start off with some light doses of food, find out how they react, then gradually up the doses as you progress. It's dead simple honestly and so far has produced some fantastic results for me. Can't beat the price either (minus nute costs).
20$ 3 Cu. Ft bag of perlite 3$ Bag of verm 16$ 8 1 gal plastic buckets 2$ Bag of solo cups for babies
So 41 bucks to set up 8 plants. The perlite will definitely last you, 3 cu ft is a lot. I got 8 gallons in buckets and filled probably 20-25 solo cups worth too. I also filled a seedling tray with some as well for clones. I still have enough perlite to do another bucket or so. Total cost is 100$ with the nutes in there, but I'll have enough to get me through at least one more flowering cycle before I'll have to order more.
That's hempy in a nutshell, no moving parts, hand watered, and dirt cheap.

Dude thats fucking awesome, I'm going this route. Thank you for taking time to explain it to me. I'm only gonna do like one plant so it will be even cheaper. How big of pots do you use?

And for the solo cups do you used the same mixture? or do you use soil?

same mix, 16 oz cup gets 1.5 cups of perlite to .5 cups of verm.

And since there is no nutes in the solos do I have to add them?

yup. If they're seedlings they can go at most a week without food. When they're sprouts I'd feed them some Ph balanced water, soon as they start working on their second set of three bladed leaves i'd start hitting them with a light dose of nutes.

Should I use the same nutes that you mentioned above or different?

Since you are only going to grow 1 plant you are going to need a bigger container.
He only has them in smaller containers because they are AF and don't get large at all.

So is this the only nutes I need then? For both flowering and vegging?

Yes. I believe it is a 3 part system.
General Hydroponics also comes highly recommended.
Personally I use Neptune's Harvest - Organic Fish and Seaweed Nutrients
I have been using them for a solid 7 years. It goes a LONG way and my plants show an obvious jump in growth every time I feed them with it.
I absolutely love the stuff. It grew the worlds largest pumpkin!

Flora nova is a one part system. There's a veg line and a bloom line though, so you'll need to pick up both if you're starting from seed.

You gotta look around some more too. Don't just go get the first thing someone recommends. Every grower has their own personal preferences.
I myself believe you don't have to spend that much on nutrients to get good results. Walk before you run
I've heard more good reviews on GH than floranova... but I can't tell you anything because i've never used floranova

I think I'm gonna trust Coda, since he is using Hempy Buckets like I am. If I dont use that I'm going to use General Hydroponics.
