Sad day for my music collection...
    #289233 - 09/30/09 03:36 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Well fuck.  Finally got all the shit i've downloaded and put on my computer music wise sorted out.  Used tagscanner to make sure each file had proper photo; artist; album; songname; and they were all uniform.  Capital leters, everything lol.  Not but maybe 5 hours after that my computer freezes.  Gave her a lil love tap to get her motivated; she screamed at me then froze up real good!

Restarted; wanted drivers.  Told it to fuck off...

Restarted again; now it doesnt want anything let me move the mouse.  Absolutly nothing would happen.  So after some persuading and a restore; all 8000 songs... gone! :frown:

Now i dont know where to start as to pick up the pieces.  You feel empty with no music to start with.  I think im going to get my vinyl collection and say fuck it; im content with that

Back to the pirate bay :crazy2:

haha, that was my idea.  I forgot i have my Desktop processor at my dads.  My plan (after i got past this step) was to turn the CPU to a Seeding/slave tower.  Run utorrent off it; store music on it, and partition the harddrive to have a huge backup file.  Then just have it be a massive music/storeage device that will later also be optimized to allow for most performance out of serato.  Its gonna be my deadicated music drive so i can have room on my laptop for something other then music ha.

Just sucked cause like; 8000 songs was like 30 something gigs... Shit it consisted of EVERYTHING Tiesto has ever put out, DJ Shadow, Bar 9, Atmosphere... geeze.  So much shit... gone...

Oh well.

I feel you man.  My desktop harddrive just ate shit 2 weeks ago, and ~40 gigs of music went down with it.  Most of it was stuff I can download again, but at least 10 gigs were some tight mixes from local djs dating back 5-6 years...  I'm definitely in that fuck my life boat with ya right now.

Windows repair console tells me it can't find files on the restore cd, and when I find them for it through browse, it still doesn't recognize the file to extract it. :crankey:

I'm not doing a full out restore in hopes of buying a new harddrive and finding a way to access the drive that way.  It's worth a try for me I guess.

Unless you have a solid state hard drive, never hit your pc! A standard disk type HD (which most of us have, since solid state drives are top dollar yet) has several platters which are read by a set of needle like arms(almost like a record player). So when you kick, hit or drop your pc while it's powered up, you can actually jam the drive.

I have messed up a couple drives buy just moving my tower and setting it down a little harder then i should have. Laptops hard drives have several features to eliminate hd failures of this type. When i did computer repair i could never stress enough to back up your files at least once a month.

However, if your drive is not working in the pc cause of missing window files or have bad sectors on the hd then it may be possible to hook it up into the tower as a slave drive extract the files to disc or flash drive. You would need a new or alternate drive for the master and have an operating system installed before you would be able to do that though.

backups man.  I've got 160 gigs of music stored on three different drives, one of theem i keep on me at all times.  I can not lose my collection.  I've worked too damn hard to acquire it all.  I can only imagine what you're going through.

At least burn your music to DVD or something! 160 gig of music is a shit load to lose! I back all mine to DVD and then store the DVD's in a secure place out of the sun. But damn man 160 gb is a bunch of DVD's too!
Better safe then sorry though IMO

yeah, it would be a majorly daunting task.  That should have been done as i collected the stuff.  As the collection grows it just becomes harder and harder to do.

The longer you wait the more you collect. The more you collect the harder/longer it gets!
