pH problem
    #283222 - 09/20/09 08:49 AM (14 years, 7 months ago)

I've got two plants in two 11 liters pots with soil. The soil package said the soil had a pH of 5.6 - 6.4. I've watered these three times now, first with clean water with a pH of 8.2, second time with water and lime concentrate to bring the pH down to 6.5ish and now I just watered with the same concussion put at a pH of 6.9. However, after checking the run off water of the 6.5-watering it was 5.8, and now with the 6.9-watering it was 5.9. I'm a bit concerned since I know the optimal pH is around 6.5 - 7.0 and I'm now way below that. So far my plants are looking very healthy though.

My question is, how should I get my pH straight? Will I have to water with my pH 8.2 water a couple of times more? Or do I have to get a pH up buffer solution?

I water with an interval of about 5 days.

Measuring run off from your soil can sometimes be a pretty poor way of checking the Ph of your soil.  The reason for this is that if you have a bit of build up or some extra nutes just sitting in your soil at the bottom, they will lower the Ph reading you get.

However, to answer you question.  Yes, by watering your plants with a solution that a Ph which is higher then your reading you will raise the Ph of your soil to acceptable levels.

Check out my grow journal. I'm doing this right now.
