When the "leaves of trees turn orange and red in the fall", the chlorophyll isn't the one changing colors. The leaves actually change colors due to the lack of chlorophyll, consequently causing the carotenoids in the chloroplasts to show.

How much does a UVB bulb cost? I'm sure I'd pick one up in Petmania. Although comparing it with last grow would be a bit rediculous. Maybe next time.

If they were overly purple they'd have trouble making food. What is the purple anyway? Added colour to attract bees?
Chlorophyll isn't the only photosynthetic pigment. plants that aren't green at all photosynthesize every day all over the planet.
