So one of my 3 girls went through a MAJOR growth spurt overnight. This plant used to be the shortest of my 3 girls but it all changed in 19 hours.
You can see in the pic that most of the foliage is 2 nodes down from the top of the plant. This USED to be the top of the plant only 19 hours ago!!! Is this where my BIG BUD goes?
I used to have her on a plastic tote to get her closer to the light but when I woke up she had grown right to the top of the reflector! So I left her right inside the reflector today with no ill effects. I guess she'll stay there for awhile anyway. She hasn't grown anymore today, so what's up? I wasn't expecting this. I'm using a 400W vertical HPS with a parabolic reflector and I guess I'll keep it about 2 inches from my girls from now on.
One day growth spurt? Makin' room fo' buds? WTF???

Hmm I never really measured to see if I've had similar growth. If you think about the start of flowering or the stretch time... some sativas will triple their height in around 2 weeks. I think you can get more than 3x stretch if you were growing a pure or landrace sativa. 2weeks*10ft=nearly a ft a day?
I think that would be modest too as some sativas get over 20ft high :x so I'd assume a good 15 ft of that is stretch, 2weeks=14days... 12"+ per 24hrs?
I don't know if it works like that I'm just making an assumption, I've never really grown a big untrained sativa so I don't know. Their stretch may be longer than 2weeks in duration.

I've had hybrids jump 2" in a day easily outdoors!?!? Shit happens man. Some of em' just wanna touch the sky!

i dunno man. Im on my first grow and my seedlings are about 2 weeks old. i had them under four 75W incandescent GE bulbs that generated a lot of heat. i went to sleep one night, and one plant had grown up 3 to 3 1/2 inches to touch the hood of the lamp and burnt itself. good thing i always check first thing when i wake up 
But i suppose sometimes plants just go through random growth spurts. i sure wish i knew what triggers them, because i would be triggering them a lot >:)
