Depends on the situation. For a group or to carry around with me, I prefer a pipe or a joint, but at home for just getting high as fuck, there's no replacement for the bong IMO.

Uh... I'm pretty sure the water filters the smoke. It pulls out the psychoactive chemicals too...
I'm sure most of it is just ash, it's just you can't really stop the chemicals from dissolving.

Nothing is dissolving really. Sometimes vaporized thc particles cool down and become solids that float in the water, but this negligeable. Using a bong does not improve the quality of the smoke. If anything it blunts the strength of it - but you still get high as shit from a bong compared to a joint. So again, when this effect happens it just doesn't matter.
You could argue that it's healthier to smoke bongs because in terms of smoke volume, you have less exposure in your lungs compared to other smoking methods.

It's not a sometimes, it's an all the time. I never said it's a lot, I just said it happens.
