High dark cycle temps
    #234234 - 05/30/09 01:57 PM (14 years, 9 months ago)

What would happen if you were left in the unfortunate situation that your dark cycle temps were hitting 85F but your light cycle was in the a decent temp rang of 74F - 78F?

Could it cause a major issue?

I wouldn't think so, but why is this happening? Are you not leaving the exhaust on all the time?

It is much better to have the opposite happening, like high temps with a spike in the day and lower temps at night. If you must run your exhuast at night then do it.

Yup yup 211CFM fan running 24/7 through cool tube. With the addition of 2 x 30CFM fan intake and a 2" x 15" passive intake. box dimensions are 2.3'(W) x 1.7'(D) x 4'(H). Small space, but untill recently it wasnt too much of an issue to cool.

Hot weather is a bitch. :frown:

Lights are on at night as the ambient drops to around 58F - 65F keeping inside between 74F - 78F. Up untill around 3 or 4 days ago the day time ambient has been 65F+ so i had lights off in this time.

Just recently though the weather has been really good and so damn hot. Ambient has been as high as 85F. The heat generated from the fans running inside add a couple of degrees as well.

I'm just kinda praying things cool down a little soon.

If you have central air, add a Y fitting to the ducting, and pump air into the space. You can control it with a louver of sorts, a book, anything really. Of course we are talking about cutting a hole in the floor here.

Not too sure I understand, but i have no AC of any sorts. The windows don't even open. :thumbdown:

I'm gonna have a look at trying to pull some air from directly outside. It's going to take some good forward planning though.

If that fails I think it's just gonna be a case of not running over the summer.

Nice cacti btw... how long you been growin them buttons?

I have to stop growing after this one is over for the summer.Damn heat.
Would have to run a/c 24/7.
However will remodel during summer. Will be adding insulation to the place.

good luck

No AC. Wow man. You can get those portable ACs, but I agree that you should probably just hang it up until fall. That sucks.

I've been growing cacti for about 2 years. Its a neat little hobby. I think I'm going to get into chemistry in the fall. I've done a few different types of extractions. I want to do a salvanorium extraction next.

hey man, be careful pulling air from outside. not only is it HOT air, not helping the problem of high heat, but you have the possibilities of pulling in outside pests, bugs, or letting light out. I would look into one of those ionic pro coolers. pedestool style, oscilates, and works great. they are expensive though.

Here is a link to an ebay listing i found for ya'!

Pest can be taken care of with a duct screen that is made for such applications. Light can be taken care of by getting insulated ducting that has a black interior. One 45 degree (or greater) bend should remedy any light leaks. But yeah, that will pull in heat.

I understand that a screen will stop most pest from coming in.But the smaller ones that fit through the wholes, gnats, spiders, anything small. The light block with a bend in the duct works great, it's a good idea to put in the bend you mentioned, I have the same light block setup for my intake with ductwork.
Also, like you said the air is hot, but it is also humid. It will raise humidity and make him need a dehumidifier unless he already has very low RH in his room. in which case he would be fine. I just get worried about a possible backdraft pulling air out of the room into the neighbors nose.......def. want odor control on anything open to the outside world.

Thank you guys for the advice. That backdraft thing is definitely something i didnt think of and would be very possible.

RH is low as it is, anywhere between 30 and 40 so it rising a bit isn't going to be too much of a problem.

When i look at my options a protible AC unit would seem the best. not going to be much point drawing air from outside if it's just as warm.

Thank you for the link lilmafia. I'll have a look around and see what deals i can find.

Back draft and odor isn't a problem if you have sufficient negative pressure.

Humidity isn't going to be affected like you think. Negative pressure negates a lot of that.

Words for the day: negative pressure lol

lol....i see what you are saying with the negative pressure, but thats only if he has a inline hooked up and running to create the negative pressure in the room. What if he turns his fans off to make repairs or turn on CO2?
Then the negative pressure goes away and there is backdraft leaving the room.
I would say add a inline ducting damper to the intake if you go that route to be extra safe. Dont need nosey neighbors sniffing around...literally..LOL!!!
my word for the day is "Bongalicious".......my last batch of PPP was....."bongalicious"LOL!!!
Let us know how it works out man, whatever you decide.

Ha that was a stroke of luck... I just found one for nice and cheap. £50 to be exact. RRP appears to be between £200 - £250 from looking round the net.

    * -Cooling Capacity; 10,000 Btu/h (2900W)
    * -Approximate running cost is 6.5p per hour
    * -Appropriate for rooms up to 300 Square feet
    * -Easy to use electronic touch panel with ventilation/cooling and thermostatic controls, 12-hour on/off timer and a sleep function
    * -Two-speed turbo fan with quiet operation and directional airflow vents
    * -Dehumidifies (up to 26 litres a day) as it cools evaporating water through the hose
    * -Easy to clean washable filter and replaceable odour absorbent activated charcoal filter
    * -Supplied with 1.5m hose for venting
    * -Dimensions (H) 75 x (W) 45 x (D) 39 cm
    * -Weight 29kg

That should do the job nicely i think!

Thanks again for your help guys.
