How am i doing?
    #205885 - 03/15/09 09:37 PM (15 years, 17 days ago)

Never grown weed before. What i got here is from bagseed. I'm just using CFL's for lighting, the walls and reflectors are made with foil. I do have a few concerns.
1- I'm not totally clear on a method of feeding the plants. This is a soilless mix, and i have those miracle grow singles packets.
2- Appx how much longer till i need to move these to their own little pots?

Here are pictures. SOrry for the low quality!

The lights are hanging from the closet. I can easily raise the lights as needed. I do plan to add more cfls so i can have lights hanging on the tops, and then some on the sides.  I know the best way to grow inside is with HIDs, but i'm not going to use any.

This is the biggest one so far

And i think these are healthy as well

This one is droopy. I dont know why. I did mist the top of the medium with a diluted food mixture yesterday, buit there is no noticeable difference.

Anyone got a diagnoses on this fella?

The plants in this pot were just moved to it, appx 20 hours ago. They all got very very droopy for about an hour, but all have had great improvement in stature since then. Except the one on the right

Any diagnoses and advice, or anything is appreciated.

My overall plan for these little buggers, is after i sex them to only keep two females in my closet. The other females will have a place outside in the forest, so they can grow gigantic and have real sunlight.  The two in my closet, i'm going to run in an "EZ2GRO" hydroponic system. It has two 1.9 gallon pots, and a gravity fed reservoir. CFL's will be used throughout the growth cycle.

I do want to put the closet plants in to flowering once they reach, approximately 1 foot tall, maybe 10 inches. Yield is not a real concern to me on the plants i keep inside otherwise i'd get a HPS. I just want a stash for personal smoke, while i wait for fall!

Should i move these plants to new pots before i sex them? Or let them grow another 5-8 inches together?

Mold shouldnt be an issue there is a fan running on medium towards the plants. The water droplets quickly evaporate. I read that it is good to mist the leaves once every day or two, to prevent spider mites? is this correct?

Would i be well off, transplanting the plants individually to 32 oz. cups with holes for drainage? the 32 oz cups would be big enough right?

Separate the plants, What kind of lighting are you using ( spectrum, watts, lumens) your definitely gonna need more. and watering the leaves doesn't really do that much man the tickets in the roots thats what absorbs the nutrients. Also trawl around the forums and look at some examples in the grow journals much can be learned there.

Those plants are stretching. When you get the chance and re-pot them bury some of that stem along with the roots. If I am seeing correctly a several of those are stretching and getting ready to tip over...You gotta get them under control now.

Put that light as close as you fucking can to them...Maybe add a couple more. You can go get a CFL lamp(large one) from walmart cheap and it will do MUCH better than that.

Firstly, you never should have planted so many seeds together like that you created a major problem for yourself.

I wouldn't listen to these guys. Don't transplant yet. Wait for them to develop they're root balls or else I predict (minimum) 50% mortality rate on your transplants. That means if you move your plants now and you don't know wtf you're doing, you're gonna kill them.

Since you're working with bagseed and any of those could be the gem you're searching for, it is vital to keep every one of them alive.

When they are bigger, you can literally just cut the roots apart with a knife and they will survive. If you transplant them now you will shock and kill most of them as their root systems are still very small and and damage could be catastrophic.

Another point, seedlings tend to stretch, period. Especially when grown under CFLs. You don't have to bury the stem, just prop it up with a stick if it starts to fall over. If you bury the stem you can cause it to rot and brown off. Also think about turning the speed on the fan up, more "wind" will make the stems stronger.

Feel free to PM me with questions.

Yeah, OK .....

You should be using propagation trays, jiffy cubes, or rockwool. But since you didn't you can still sort this out.

You need to transplant now. Here is why:

1. Tearing apart root systems to different plants is a great way to stress the shit out of them.

2. Waiting to get to that point, as suggested in the quote, is going to waste your time. If they don't pull through now, you've only lost two weeks as opposed to a month or so. Its bag seed. It is easily replaced.

Anyway seedlings don't tend to stretch in general. Anyone that says that is doing something wrong themselves. Sure a few here and there will be spindly. Its not there nature to be weak from the beginning.

Use a knife and cut a deep circle around the plant. Remove the plug, and replant almost all the way up to the bottom leaves. This will solve the spindly problem (for now), and it will encourage root growth. When transplanting anything, I have found that having moist soil helps a lot. Use an all purpose fert, dilute to half strength, and water them in once transplanted.

I'm sorry SevenFingers, but you are giving some BS advice. Do your homework.

EG

I wasn't concerned with time frames, just saving the plants. My advice would still work.
