 flourescent lights

I was planning on using flourescent lights for my first grow to save money mainly. Are cfl lights just another name for them? If not could someone explain the difference.
Also, anyone know where to get them? Wal-Mart? How many would I need for three plants.(each 2 feet tall maximum)

yes the daylight bulbs work great... three plants two feet high idk a two bulb fixture 18" should work fine. Lowe's and or Home Dpot well have these bulbs and a fixture to mount them. F Wal-Mart... Hardwear stores are where it's at.

use some cfls, theyll work great. i would recommend keeping your plants low by bending/ pruning so the light is more efficient

You want COOL WHITES, GE ECOLUX CHROMA 50's at LOWES. You don't want yellow light. consumer grade bulbs are opposite of commercial.
Commercial bulbs;
COOL WHITE= yellow light.
DAYLIGHT= white/blue light (these are optimal)
Consumer grade;
COOL WHITE= white/blue light
DAYLIGHT= yellow light.
Bulbs between 3000 and 7000 are good. Red light produces more stem growth  , blue light produces foliage growth..and since your growing weed, is'nt that what you want?  Blue light for initial growth, then a lower k light for flowering. BLUe for strong roots and foliage, orange for flowering. Combination of both is best. You can buy a bulb that has it all or mix them up.

The best rule of thumb I have heard is to stick with 2700k and 6500k. A mix of these two color temperatures will fully enable photosynthetic action in plants.

Yes.
Although some people insist that flouro's are wack, they can and have done a good job. I still prefer a wide spectrum Metal Halide, but thats a cost $$ that some don't want to spend. Worth it in the long run.

Zeplin: Either CFLs or tubes, no difference. (They work the same way but in different configurations.)
ismokeweed: I just realized nobody explained CFLs as mentioned in the first post. CFL stands for compact florescent. They are just florescent tubes bent into a coil or loops to provide a more concentrated light source. If you are going to use fluorescents, use whichever type best fits your grow space, tube or CFL.
I agree with psilo though that a good HID is a better investment if you will carry on in this hobby.

word. since this will be my first real grow and im shit broke as fuck i'll be going with the flourescents for sure but someday down the road ill definitely get better ones. thanks for all the help

I am using two 4' flouro fixtures each with one 6500k daylight bulb and one Aquarium and Plant Eco Lux bulb in each.
