Tips of leaves not looking good
    #124501 - 09/21/08 03:46 PM (8 years, 2 months ago)

Hey guys been growing this bitch for about 7 months now and the tips are starting to worry me. They started getting purple/black at the tips very mildly about 2 weeks ago now it is getting worse. Also there is some yellowing on the ends of the leaves from the tip to stem. I thought it was a nitrogen deficiency but in another thread I was told it wasn't any help would be greatly appreciated I wanna fix her up quick status...

it would be most helpful if you filled out the questionnaire found stickied at the top of the forum.  This will help us diagnose your problem effectively rather then taking random stabs at it.

As a side note, burnt tips are most commonly the result of overfeeding.

Overfeeding or overwatering by the looks of it, looks to be coming along nicely however.

It really isn't a good idea to be cutting off fan leaves. For one thing, you're hurting your yield, because you're taking away the plant's ability to produce energy for bud production. Also, you're taking away a buffer zone between problems that you are having and the buds, insomuch that you're having burning occurring near the buds instead of on the tips of fan leaves. In fact, it is possible that removing them is one of the reasons you're having the burning in the first place (the fan leaves aren't there to make use of the nutrients).

Sometimes if the bottom leaves of the plant don't get enough light you can trim those off, just not too too much.  Some people when flowering cut all the leaves off so the "buds can get extra light" but this never made sense to me because of how plants work.  I've cut off bottom leaves because they were pretty much dying off but not stripped'em nude :strokebeard3:

You look like you'll still end up with some pretty good herbage, just maybe not the stuff of legends, you know?  :goodluck:

yeah I was told by my friends uncle who claimed to have grown tons of plants that taking the leaves off converts more energy to the buds growth

that's a big rumor. . . :smile:  I never believed it when i heard it. . .  Maybe "trimming" but not stripping down.  outdoors the plant you already have bent and looks great, kudos, though i think tying fan leaves w/ twisty ties or mechanics wire will be more beneficial next time that way they still exist & you can move them out of the way to expose light to the buds.

other than that, it reminds me of my friends old tree and well... several :bigblunt: later... lol :smile:

seriously though, she looks good and it's always good to learn new tricks and tips, that' why we are all here!! :cheers:

If you haven't, pick up a copy of jorge cervantes medical marijuana horticulture bible... about $20 and is fantastic... Definately a great book that covers a variety of ops, from hydroponics to outdoors, to a section on soil & even one for water / nutrients that goes into detail deficiencies and such;

more leaf area=more potential photosynthetic energy=bigger, fuller buds

this is true when in regards to the bottom buds of your plant.  Removing SOME excess fan leaves to allow more light to the bottom of your plant WILL increase those budsites production.  However, you need to make sure to remove as little as possible so you don't harm the overall bud production of the plant.

Also, i would say that this really also applies to indoor growing as no light is stronger then the sun.  So, if you're an outdoor grower looking to let a little more light to your lower sections, you'd be much better off training your plants with some string instead of removing beneficial fan leaves.

one of them, yes.  You're also growing a sativa from the looks of it.  Don't be expecting massively dense buds from sativa plants.

As the plant nears the end of the budding cycle, pistils will change from white, to red, to brown.  Your resin heads will go from clear, to cloudy, to amber.  Your leaves will also begin to yellow and die off.  IMO using the resin heads is the best way to judge whether or not your harvest is finish.  All clear trichs mean your plant still needs some time.  This will produce a "heady" buzz with almost no body load.  The high will also tend to be a bit shorter in duration.  a 50/50 mixture of clear to cloudy is preferred by some.  This produces the "heady" high of the clear, with a nice touch of a body high from the cloudy heads.  This high will be longer in duration then all clear.  All, or mostly, cloudy heads will still produce a heady buzz but will have a more noticeable body effect.  A mixture of cloudy to amber trichs is considered to be when the plant is full mature and ready for harvest, this will produce a real stony high, it may be couchlocky, but at the same time it still may produce a nice head buzz as well.  All amber heads usually means you let your plant overmature and will produce an extreme couchlock high.

It's really a personal preference depending on the type of high you want to achieve.  Most people prefer to chop when they hit all cloudy with a touch of amber.  Personally I like having more amber then most because i prefer the couchlock high (helps me sleep and relax more).
