about my soil...everyone i've talked to says foxfarm is really good so i think i'm gonna go with that...but my real question is should i use oyster shells at the bottom so the water can drain or just mix the soil with perlite and vermiculite?

for added drainage at the bottom i would use either lava rocks or hydro ton.

Soma recommends hydro-corals (Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate) I don't know if this is different than hydro ton, but they not only promote drainage, but they also are heavy enough to support a root system on their own (they were originally used to support roots of hydroponic tulips in Holland.
