does this exist in the US?
ive heard people talking about free healthcare clinics and whatnot. are there really places like that? if so what kinds of things do they usually treat? is it just like small things, or could it be bigger issues as well?
sorry i got a problem and no insurance, so some info would be welcomed!
i searched google for free health clinics/free healthcare + my city/state and didnt find anything

You can go to a free clinic, but that's just for small things like cuts and scrapes.
If you need to stay at a hospital for a few days (recovering from a stab wound, etc.),
then no - you'll need insurance or a big-ass bank account.

Any emergency room must see you and treat you, regardless of your ability to pay. That's the law.
Once they see you, ask them about free followup care, clinics, etc. They will be in the best position to tell you what resources are available in your area.

Yea just go to your local ER or urgent care clinic, they will treat you and just send you a fat bill.

Oh, they'll send you a bill, sure. But you don't have to pay it. And if you are really poor enough to need free healthcare instead of paying your own way- they might just write it off.

Well, you can avoid all hassles by sending them a dollar a month or some crap. But as for paying, what are they going to do to you if you don't pay? Put your appendix back in?

i dont know, fuck my credit up. not let me get any type of loan in the future. take it out of my weekly checks at work.

i mean, i know they cant just un-fix me. but it doesnt mean i still cant get fucked.

why does everyone think a little piece of paper is the end all be all of their existence. so you owe a company money, who cares? you have rights, they can't do anything about it but send it to a collection agency who will call you. sometimes the hospital/clinic will work out a payment plan with you also.
if your sick, get help, don't wait.

Federally-funded health centers care for you, even if you have no health insurance. You pay what you can afford, based on your income. Health centers provide
checkups when you're well
treatment when you're sick
complete care when you're pregnant
immunizations and checkups for your children
dental care and prescription drugs for your family
mental health and substance abuse care if you need it
thats what the HRSA has to say. and theres 4 clincs in my area!

those "free" community healthcare centers suck balls. at least the ones around here do. they operate at over 100% capacity daily, and it's a bitch to even get an appointment with a doctor.

Yea if you are under or at the poverty line, you get free health care in the States.
basically your health care system is worst for middle class average joes, who are not rich enough for private, and too rich for free.

welcome to America? that is what most people are doing here, and they have convinced themselves its what they WANT. everyone wants nice things and are willing to go into extreme debt to have them.
personally, i loathe credit, and want nothing to do with it. even if that means im driving cars that are 10 years old and live in an apt. instead of some bigbox house in the suburbs.

give them a fake last 2 digits of your social security number when checking in for an emergency and don't carry ID. easy as pie.
STI check ups and free needles and condoms and other little stuff, check out planned parent hoods, needle exchanges, or free clinics (most likely in a more urban setting)
now as for teeth, anyone know anything on free dentists? my teeth hurt!

A few years ago I got creamed by a truck on my bike. The fucked up town that I was living in stated that cyclists and motor vehicles are synonymous. They had little extra guidelines like if you were making a left hand turn you could ride against traffic or if it was unsafe to ride with traffic at a given point. The latter was true in my case. Anyways I was looking this guy dead in the eyes. The thing is if people aren't looking for you a lot of times they still won't notice you. So this guy rolls the stop sign and hits me. The cop took a statement from him and him alone. I was unconscious at the time. Anyways I was poor as fuck and completely fucked out of any compensation. I ended up with 11,000 in hospital bills. I filled out the right paperwork and talked to the right people and got 9,000 of it dropped. $20 a month took a while but it was better than the full amount. So if its that important they can work with you. There are loads of thing which if treated early enough aren't that big of a deal. Put it off long enough and you might be dealing with it for the rest of your life.
